Freshen up interior?
« on: October 01, 2013 - 02:47:29 PM »
Hey,
The dash, door panels and center console in my '72 Challenger are overall nice but needs to be freshened up a little as they show signs of getting bleached.
I need recommendations on products that'll make them new again :)

Thanks!

+1   :iagree:

when i did my interior in my '72 i did the whole process and not just sprayed it black.

first i washed the panels with dish soap and water
next i washed them with the SEM soap
then i cleaned them with the SEM prep
next i used the adhesion promoter 2 coats
before the second coat dried, i dusted on the black
then i put on 3 coats of black and the panels came out looking new.

this stuff isn't real thick either so you don't lose the grain in the panels.
i did everything, door and qtr panels, seat backs, console, kick panels and all the seat belt covers.

Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely have a look at those SEM products!

Joelson6, it's a matching numbers stock 318 with (working) factory AC. One owner in LA from '72 up until earlier this year when another swede bought it and shipped it off to Sweden. The guy who brought it here had to get rid of it after just a couple of months and I became the lucky owner!

While on the topic, and ideas on what to do with a crack in the dash? I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one with this problem..

I've seen new dash covers and similar stuff on eBay, but I'm not sure how good that will look.
Is that the only solution or can the original pad be restored without any visual traces?

Thanks!

I will be going with just dashes to re do mine http://www.justdashes.com Getting it ready to ship now. A little on the pricey side but it looks like a good product and best of all they will do my original dash and return it to me. Check out the video of their process.

I prefer the reproduction dash pads from Ultimate Rides. They are available from Dave at Roseville Moparts - a member here. :2thumbs:

I actually read about the dash pads from Ultimate Reads some days ago. It seems though that a lot of people experienced problems fitting them :(

I've installed about 12 of them, in my opinion each one is better then the last.
Are they perfect ? No of course not. The only one that will be perfect is an original one.
The Just Dashes one looks to "fat" in my opinion.
Ultimate Rides is not perfect, but the best available in my opinion. :2cents:

Ok, now I got this. The guy didn't have the SEM soap in stock.
So now the plan is to repaint the centre console and door panels.

Wish me luck! :)
