Aussie racing series
« on: October 07, 2013 - 09:51:48 PM »
Happened upon a video of an Aussie racing series.  Apparently it's partnered with their V8 supercar series.  They race the same tracks, but they use old muscle cars (falcons, chargers, mustangs, etc).  Thought it was kinda fun:

It is a pretty good series to watch, the boys are putting a lot of time and money in to these old classics to go racing with :2thumbs:

WOW!  That was awesome!  Love the fact they took old cars and raced them to the max!  I was drooling all the time I watched the video!  Thanks for posting it!

You see the flames from the old Aussie Charger at 7:58?  I wonder if it had a V8 or the Hemi 6 in it?  :clueless:

The red Falcon up fron reminded me of Eric Bana's Falcon.

I'm going to have to check out more of those videos.  I thought I caught a glimpse of a gen 2 Trans Am at the beginning of the race.  Maybe it's in other videos.  Thanks again!

Hi Phil, Their are a couple of Chargers running in the series, one is V8 and thew other is Hemi 6, they both have a unique sound, but certain tracks favour the Hemi 6, they are super torquey engines too, and turn around corners really well. :2thumbs:

Thanks for the info, Ken!

Man, you're lucky to have that race series down in your country, and Mad Max!!!!  The Interceptor makes any car Vin Diesel had in Fast and the Furious series look like a Honda Accord!  :grinyes:  :roflsmiley:

Hey Phil,

Kenny's to modest to mention that he also races in that series. Here he is getting ready for the time trials.  :poopoke:

For anybody interested we here in Australia are having our annual premier car race at Bathurst New South Wales. It is the Bathurst 1000 km race with mainly Commodores (GM) and Falcons (Ford) but this year Mercedes and Nissan have entered.
There is a formula for the way these cars are built trying to make all cars competitive with each other.
It is called the V8 Super Car series and one of the rounds was held in Austin Texas (Austin 400) this year back in May 2013.
The cars in the video clip on the first thread used to race at Bathurst many years ago and still do have their own race at Bathurst and were basically Showroom production cars. Over the years costs and rule changes evolved into what we now have with the V8 Super Cars with only a few manufacturers cars being used and supposed to be no factory teams now.
The track at Bathurst is a public road which is closed off several times a year for the purpose of racing cars and motor bikes. It is over 3.8 miles long and rises 570 feet from it lowest to highest point, it is very demanding and has attracted many top overseas drivers over the years including Americans.
I believe that it can be watched on line over the internet, our local national TV station Channel 7 broadcast it live with in car as well as static and helicopter vision as well.       :aussie:

Nice info, Aussie Challenger!

I wonder if there were shots of Bathurst in the movie "Love the Beast" starring Eric Bana?  :clueless:

I haven't seen that movie but my understanding is that Eric Bana's movie centered on his racing in the Targa Tasmania, our southern island below Victoria.

Targa Tasmania sounds familiar.  It gets into a little boo boo with a few trees...

If you want to see some spectacular crashes there has been a few up at Bathurst, the track is narrow and plenty of trees and even one competitor was hit by a Kangaroo (not in this clip).

Top 10 Bathurst Crashes of All time

This video contains a few of the many that happen with racing.

Touring car Masters was on TV today, the poor old Mopar Chargers had issues, the Orange car did not even get to line up for the race as it pulled in to the pits on the warm up lap, and Crick in the Black Charger had major problems as the green light started the race for some reason.
Hope the guys have better luck over the two next days and get to race both Saturday and Sunday. :2thumbs:
