Eddy vs 440 source
« on: October 12, 2013 - 01:27:19 AM »
Ok all, other than the price difference, wha else is there. I was reading on the eddy performer RPMs and it seems like you have to get headers. Is it worth the extra 500 for the eddys and then whatever else they need.

IMO No !! The eddys offer nothing more than the Stealth if the eddys are even as good , I personally removed ported Iron heads & installed eddys , it was a nightmare as the headers no longer fit properly & had to be reworked for spark plug clearance  , the rockers did not center over the valve tips properly & the pistons had to be fly cut to clear the vales as they were not quite in the same position , on the dyno we made 305 RWHP with the Iron heads & 308RWHP with the eddys so $2500 spent for 3 hp

From what I read on the web, they both flow about 280 - 290 cfm @ .600 lift intake. Don't remember the exhaust #'s but they were also similar.

Stealths are good for a mild hop up and can do lifts up to .510 lifts otherwise you have to swap out the springs.

They supposedly flow about 220cfm while the Super Stealths flow around 300 with the spring of your choice as they are only sold bare and some machine work is required, plan accordingly.

I put cnc ported stealths on Don's car and did the up grades myself and also installed a 625 roller. Profab 950 hooker 2 inch, 3800 stall and 373 dana is here now i'm installing.  Since I decked his block and trimmed the heads down a bit, I made my own push rods for it.

If you can get the cnc stealths go for it and you will be better off with them.  I myself now am running B1 originals. But it is in a whole different ball game on them.   Good for mid 5's in the 1/8th for me tho

No Drew, they are the first runs and 440source sent them off to Modern Cylinder head and had Jeff CNC them.  Jeff passes away recently  RIP  cancer took him early. But they still have heads in stock.   You upgrade the locks and retainers, also the springs to fit your app. Knowing you tho, you will most likely be in the mid 500 lifts on your build, so you most probably will have to just have the open and closed seat pressure checked is all, if even that on your build.

Hi Al,

I'm really sorry to hear about Jeff, but appreciate the heads up on the CNC'd Stealth Heads.  I just ordered a pair while 440Source still has them in stock.  I'm gathering parts for my stroker 440 build and maybe as earley as spring I'll see if you're still interested in putting all of this together for me.  If you are I'd like to ask you about what I need for the short block which is what I have left to get.

Thanks, Jim

Just talked to 440Source.  Called them when I saw the CNC Heads now show out of stock.  They said that Jeff's brother had taken over the business so there won't be an impact on the heads availability and they already have more on the way.  Mine will ship out sometime next week.  One other thing we discussed was compression and their recommendation even with aluminum heads is no more than 11.0-1, some of the stroker kits are a little higher based on my expected head cc volume so will be looking at that.  He said 80-82 cc would probably be about right for the CNC heads.  Nice guy to talk to.

I agree , pump gas max is about 10.8:1 with good quench , you need to have the rest of the combo sorted out as far as stroker size & compression ratio so you have both good quench & the right compression ratio

CudaGuy bought a bottom end kit from mancini and the billet mains off of 440source.  I installed it in a 72 truck rb block.  We are under 11/1 Like 10.85. With good quench. it is a 493 cube.  I also installed a 440source girdle. Running it on pump gas 92.. His car will be finished very soon. It runs and drives now. I am making a bigger drive shaft and finishing up a few small details he asked for.
