I've seen or heard of a few other FK5 Challenger converts over the years.  A guy from SW Michigan talked to me at a show a few years ago and said he had a burnt orange with burnt orange interior one, though I never saw it in person.  A member here posted pictures of one he saw at a show or cruise in the Detroit area a couple years ago.  There was a Mecum auction near me in 2010 where there was a loaded FK5 with black interior 340 vert auctioned.  And I've seen a few burnt orange R/T convertibles including a U code.  I don't think FK5 is an especially rare color on an e-body, however, over time many original FK5 cars have been repainted other colors.  So if you see a high impact color or black 70 challenger or cuda at a show, take a look at the fender tag.  Lots of times you'll see the car's color has been changed, often from a color like FK5 or F8 green.

Of the 1,248 convertibles in Ola's registry, only 15 were FK5 with H6K4 interior (burnt orange/burnt orange vinyl).

Since I started this thread with my wedding car story, I dug out the photo in question. (I also put it on the Mopar wedding thread since it fits there, too.)

My wife has only made three requests for the new car. You noted one. The second is to recover the front buckets in leather like the original SE. The third is to avoid using repro parts. Pretty smart gal, huh?

I agree that the white top looks better than black, but I'm sort of biased!  :grinyes:
At least for me the color of the top is not all that relevant though.  My car rarely sees the light of day with the top up!!  My car has been a common sight at local cruises and shows for years, but I'd bet the majority of the many who have seen it have no idea what color the top is.
Having a convertible and driving it on nice days with the top up is just plain wrong. :2cents:  :lol2:

I agree. Especially about nice days with top up. I always complain when I see that.

I don't feel badly about changing top color even on a survivor car as it could always be changed back.

15 months after purchase and it is time to share the results. These cars are never done, but I now feel good enough about where mine is to share. Though I have not posted regularly here, it was not because I was not around. Posting was usually not necessary. I learned so much from the archives, in most cases finding the answer without having to ask again.

Since I stayed with body side moldings, which are black, the wife decided the new top should remain black as well. The installer confirmed the top he removed was the car's first and only one in its initial 44 years of existence. The original boot was cleanable and with a new set of clips, was ready to go. The new top and seat covers came from Legendary. We did shift the buckets to leather as a tribute to our original SE. I did the seats and carpet myself, which also replaced the originals, I believe. The door, rear, kick panels and seat backs were redone by Just Dashes. Slow and expensive, but excellent quality work.

I put the original front fenders in storage as they could one day be repaired but went with salvaged ones with new lower patch panels. Also needed patching on lower rear quarters but there was no other significant rust. Found correct Rallye wheels and had them blasted and repainted with the original steel wheels and hubcaps put into storage. For tires, went with 235s in the front and 275s in the rear.

Under the hood, it was primarily normal maintenance, carb rebuild and a whole lot of cleaning. It remains a full numbers-matching, 64,000-mile car. I just wish it was spring! This car will be driven!

Thanks to all for the kind comments. Yes, it was a Q code exec lease car with a rim blow wheel, power windows, top and brakes along with cruise control. Everything survived intact, which helped the restoration work.
