checking lights, ect.
« on: October 15, 2013 - 09:40:33 AM »
I'm going to be reinstalling the rallye dash in my 70 challenger and was wondering once the dash is in and all wiring harrnesses conected to dash can I connect a battery to it and check the lights, ect. witout the engine in the car yet or would I risk burnong out something because the engine is not in the car yet?

Also I'm having trouble installing my gauge face plate trim (if that's what it's called) back on the dash. The dashpad is on the dash and I can't seem to get it back on, the dashpad seems to be in the way. Is their a trick to installing it or need to lift the dash pad a little to fit it?
It seems like the dashpad is interferring with it. It's been 2 years since I took it out an I can't remember how to get it back on. I would think it should be able to be removed and installed without messing with the dashpad.
Oh, and the dashpad was redone.

Thanks

You can check out the lights etc without the engine wiring in. Don't put the key in the 'run' position for long or it will drain the battery through the ballast resisitor. (it will get hot, but it is made for it)
As for the bezel, do you have the column lowered? If not, that will help. I found it best to install the switch panel first, then gauges, then the bezel- extreme right end as far to the right as it will go then lining up the left side with the switch panel and working the right side into place. Not much of a "how to", and there is not a lot of wiggle room, but it will fit .....eventually.
