440 magnum engines
« on: October 19, 2013 - 05:08:33 PM »
A guy here has two 440 magnum engines. One out of a 68 Charger r/t, and one out of a 69 Charger r/t. Still has both cars but deteriorated beyond help.
One was torn down cuz it lost oil pressure. The other is as removed. Both have been sitting on a shelf in a barn for 15 years. Asking $500 each. What are they worth?

IMO, no. I would not pay more than $2-300 each. But to someone wanting those specific date codes, or if they are comlete carb to pan with all accessories and manifolds, they could be worth quite a bit more than $500.

If the block is good it is worth 200.If the steel crank is good that is worth 150 to 200.If is has all the brackets and the heads are decent 500 is a good price.

Yeah it's worth the $500 for a fully loaded HP block, steel crank, 6pack rods, etc.

Problem is you need to find out how much meat is left on the bone (.30 over, .60 over, etc) and have it sonic tested to make sure you are not buying a problem. And don't forget to mic the crank as sometimes they turn it past its use.

No intake or water pump. They were there but I wasn't concerned about owning another cast iron intake or pump. So I left them behind.
On another note, there was a very restorable 69 charger there. Already bought by someone else, but not paid for. It may be mine soon if the other buyer can't pony up the $$.
