Throttle Cable: No pedal movement
« on: October 20, 2013 - 04:00:37 PM »
That am I not doing right or not knowing what's wrong?
No movement on cable or pedal.

This is supposed to me a Hemi throttle cable 21" length.
Hardly any movement of the cable. Anyone have pictures like these so I can compare?

First picture: Pedal down and stops on bracket.

Second picture: Pedal relaxed

third picture: Cable fully extended out on engine side

Fourth picture: Brake pedal mounted

Needs to be connected to the carb to have spring pressure/resisitance to movement. I guess I'm not exactly sure what you are asking.

Carb springs hold the pedal 'up'.

It just doesn't seem like there is much pedal play.
Like only 1 inch of movement.

Using the throttle cable adjustment at the carb(s), you need to 'pull' on the throttle cable before you clamp it down ensuring that the pedal is in the full up position when the carb throttle plates are closed.

I'm pretty sure this where I bought my cable from a couple years ago.

would cutting back the black portion and shorten a little bit create more travel?

Mike,

Just thinking...perhaps the engine bay side is hanging up on the metal collar.

Try having one guy in the engine bay hold the loose end and then you in the interior side of the firewall pull the cable and then vice-a-versa.  I vageuly remember me having the same concern and then noticed that the collar on the engine bay was hanging up on the plastic outer cable and not moving fully without a carb attached to the engine side.

once both ends of the outer housing are secured the pedal will move properly , hold the engine side of the housing & slide the cable out all the way , this will raise the pedal off the floor inside the car & should give you approx. 1.5" of travel which is enough to fully open the carbs

The cable was definitely the problem.

Part of the problem is: you don't want a twist on the cable like the first one I had.
