    Electronic ignition ?.

    How many of you have swapped over to an electronic ignition? Pros - cons I am looking at

    I want a stock look to the engine I am also changing my engine harness. I assume I need the one for electronic ignition,right ? With the above setup what else if anything will I need to change?

    Personally I would not use Pertronics , seen too many failures . Having said that you do not need the electronic wiring harness the pertronics adds ! more power wire , this must go to the blue 12 v Feed wire at the Alt or Ballast resistor , NOT coil +terminal.
    My choice would be Mopar performance dist & the new Rev-N-Ator ECU , this would require the new wire harness to have the electronic ign .

    Just ordered up a new engine harness for electronic ignition from YO. What else will I need?

    I've put Pertronics in several cars with no issues, however since you bought the harness already, all you need is a Chrysler electronic distributor and an ECU box (rev-n-tor is a good option). Distributors are pretty common to find unless you want to spend $$$ on the Mopar unit.

    I would guess Summit would carry both :dunno:

     Go to RT Garage to buy the Rev-N-Nator direct. I put one in about two weeks ago, extremely please with it. Very smooth from idle to 5000 RPM. Have yet to try higher RPM.

    What engine do you have? They recommend a change in the timing. I'll have to look at the instructions to see just what that was. Did you set it up the way they said or did you find you had to alter that a bit? I have one but haven't put it in yet.

    Mancini should sell a kit with a new dist & new Rev-N-Ater ecu , probably a good price for the whole kit from them .
     I have seen a lot of restorers use the Pertronics as it really doesn't show with no ECU , but I have had a bad time with them , a lot have failed because people simply hook both wires to the coil powering the Pertronics with 6-8v which is definatly not good . But even on the rare occaision when the Pertronics is hooked up to 12-14v feed I have seen numerous no start conditions where the pertronics simple will not fire , but the engine runs fine as soon as the Pertronics is eliminated . Maybe it has something to do with altitude & works Ok down at sea level ?

    1970 340 AT. I just followed the instruction for the install. Disconnected vacuum to distributor, initial 12 degree timing, total 36 degree at around 2600 RPM. Every engine might be different, instruction said you "might" need to reset timing. Also added a switch to turn off electric choke during start. Voltage drop might be too much and box need 5V during engine start.
