Another 318 Carb Thread
« on: October 25, 2013 - 11:53:11 AM »
I have a 5.2 magnum converted to carb with an rpm air gap, 904, 3.23 gears.  I want to swap out the Eddy 1406, and I'm thinking either a 570 Holley Street Avenger or the 600 Quickfuel Slayer.  Thoughts?

In my opinion anything is better than a "street avenger".  Not happy with lack of adjustments. Seems many other carbs nowadays
have a multitude of adjustments available.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

I have used the 570 Holley , it works well , still prefer the QF / Proform carbs though

Thanks for the tips. Ordered the QFT Slayer, which I figure for about $70 less than the street avenger is a win win.

I highly doubt you will have any regrets , QFT make a great carb , it is extremely adjustable & will take time to work through & dial it in 100%

+1 for the quick fuel carb.  Replaced my 670 avenger with a 750 slayer and it woke my car up considerably, with the added benefit of better drivability out of the box.  I will never pay extra for the Holley name again!

Super adjustable like Chryco said.  Get the timing all dialed in and just progressively tune the carb one change at a time.

Mopar Action had a great three part series dialing in an engine and Auto Enthusiast just did one recently, too.

The QFT Slayer 600 just went in today.

I checked the timing before removing the eddie, and everything seemed in order (10 initial, 35 total) Ran the carb without the pump running and off it came.

Since it lacks a secondary metering block the QFT went on without a hitch. Holleys usually have a spacing problem with the magnum air gap manifold vacuum port.  That was a nice surprise.

What a difference!  The car fired right up... no bog, no backfire, feels more powerful right out of the box!  I will have to spend some time dialing the idle behavior, but I'm really happy so far.  Thanks all!
