Hey guys,
I know I haven't been around much, but that doesn't mean I've slacked off as the "Carlisle Events Coordinator" around here!
With some help from 4Cruizn, I've booked us a block of hotel rooms for 2014.
We're going to take a gamble with this one - in the past few years, prices have steadily increased on us - $10-$15 a night each year! It's been ridiculous. Shortly after I somewhat-unceremoniously assumed the role of booking hotels, we stopped staying at the Quality Inn in New Cumberland because the rooms were falling out of maintenance, the pool was absolutely disgusting, and people were just becoming unhappy with the whole "experience." The last year there, the usual parking lot we all hung out at was being used to store constructino equipment for a new hotel that was going up behind the Quality Inn, and that was basically the last straw.
Since then, the Quality Inn has been renovated and is (allegedly) under new management... They don't speak English any better than the OLD management, but they've been consistently and considerably cheaper than other hotels in the area, are still a reasonable distance to the fairgrounds, and our favorite parking lot is open again, though it is also shared with the new hotel. (It's still somewhat remote and isn't a main pass-through route, so we should still be able to hang out and park there without concerns.)
I called them, and through a challenging conversation, tossed out a "competitive rate" that I "claimed" to have been given, and they matched it. $99.99 a night. This is better than the $130 we've paid the past few years, and WAY better than the $160 a night the new hotel behind them quoted me!!! That was at a "discount," too - she said the regular rate for that time of year would be $180!! I said, "Not from ME it wouldn't be!"
So I booked the Quality. If it's not a good experience for folks, we'll go back to the drawing board in 2015. But I know a lot of people are planning to come and I wanted to save you guys some money - especially the ones coming from other countries, possibly! Also, if some of you guys want a nicer place and want to spend the extra dough, you're more than welcome to called the Fairfield Inn (a Marriott Hotel) which is literally right behind the Quality.
We have 15 single (king) bed rooms and 3 double (full/queen) size rooms reserved. The reservations are under MY NAME - Jeffrey Knapp - not the club (that's what they insisted on.)
I'm holding the rooms with my own credit card, so when you call, they'll transfer however many rooms you need from my name - and my card - to your own. I'll have to cancel any unused rooms after 6/20/14 or I'll have to pay for them. Also,
if for some reason we only end up with 9 rooms or less reserved, our rate goes up to $130 a night. So please keep that in mind. Trust me, Carlisle is ALWAYS more fun when we get a big ground hanging out at the hotel at night!!
