    Hydraulic Clutch For TKO 600

    Hey guys,

    I'm doing the conversion from an auto to a TKO 600 and was wondering where is the best place to mount the hydraulic pump master cylinder on the firewall?  Any pictures would be awesome. 

    Plus any tips or trick's you may have will be appreciated.  I've heard bleeding it could take a while, what are your experiences?  It's going into my 71 Challenger Convertible. Thanks

    I'm installing the Keisler TKO 600 kit (slower than I'd like).

    If you have this kit there are some instructions on mounting the cylinder to the firewall. There is a rubber grommet where the original cable would have run which needs to be popped out. 3 holes have to be drilled to mount it to the firewall in this spot (the one I have anyway).

    There is also a plate to strengthen the firewall in the kit, as it would flex too much without it. The kit came with the angled bracket to clear the brake booster.

    If you don't have these parts maybe order them from Keisler. If you are going to do that, make sure you aren't in any sort of hurry!

    you may want to make a adjustable stop for the hydraulic cylinder ,they are not supposed to be bottomed out each time you press the clutch..

    What is up with that picture ? the clutch pedal is in the middle & the brake seems to be to the left of the clutch ???  :clueless:
    There is another maker for the hyd clutch master that uses a bleed screw so it does take a week of pumping the clutch pedal to bleed the air out but I cannot remember who now

    LOL, You got a sharp eye Chryco Psycho... Thats correct , it should be on the clutch pedal instead of the brake. I forgot why I had it like that.. :bigsmile:

    Whatever you do, don’t forget to put the brace in at the bottom. If you don’t know what I’m talking about let me know and I’ll try to get some details up for you. Without the brace you stand a chance of a firewall failure.  I’ll see if I can get some pictures.

    It seems to be on the clutch pedal Ok but the pedal is in the wrong place . :sly:

    I have a little chuckle every time I see those Hydraboost packages from Wilwood. Even though they are nice they are just a Chev Astro setup like mine which I did on a fantastic budget. Not knocking Wilwood but reminding those that maybe want a HB setup but cannot afford the shiny one.

     I didn't know that Wilwood brakes  Inc sell any hydroboost systems ?. I also sourced mine from a 95 Astro van .. I machined my own firewall mounting plate .The Wilwood master was given to me for some work I did... I think I might have $60 in everything minus hydraulic lines... Its great to think that you thought it was store bought... LOL   :roflsmiley:

    Here's a tip for anyone using a factory steering column with aftermarket rack in pinion steering. See John's custom Cuda above....(don't think he has a factory column though, he still could use this trick)

    The Ebody column will accept the earlier A & B body lower steering column bearing just by drilling a couple of extra holes for the set-screws, therefore giving your steering shaft way more support, and now the column will have two bearings which is a good thing.

    I did this trick a couple of times now. :2thumbs:

    Nice tip Alan..  The stock steering column needs support in this area,but the Ididit tilt steering Column that I have installed on the Cuda are precision made and have bearings on both ends.  http://www.ididitinc.com/universal-steering-columns-1/TiltTeleFS_Univ-7  :bigsmile:

    I'm putting a Flaming River column in a 71 Cuda right now www.alangallantautomotiverestoration.com and it's got that area covered as well  :thumbsup: It's mainly only the factory E Body columns that could use help in this area.
