'70 Cuda Dash Pads ?
« on: November 10, 2013 - 12:43:47 PM »
I need to replace my blue dash pad for my '70 Cuda. It seems there are few options available and was wondering what you guys would suggest- year one re-pop- just dashes- ultimate rides ?? What is the best option these days?
Thanks in advance.

My Vote is for Ultimate Rides. You can buy them through Dave at Roseville Moparts and get a CC member discount. :2thumbs:

I respectfully disagree. I just received my 70 Challenger Just Dashes pad back, and it is much better than the Ultimate Rides I received from Dave. Right colour, and no waves in the vinyl. Yes it is slightly "puffy" like some say, but way better than having it come grey not black, and with waves in the vinyl around the gauge opening.

All in, my JD pad was around $1500 with shipping (I'm in Canada, approx. $400 shipping). The UR pad thru Dave was $695, and $400 for shipping (had to return core  to get my $195 back, cost $200 to return core). In the end the JD pad was about $400 more expensive but worth every penny if you want a nice looking pad in your car. I would rate the JD pad very good 8/10, and the UR pad fair, 6/10. The UR pad is a flat dark grey, and the JD pad is a nice shiny black colour like the original. My wife even commented why the UR pad was a dull dark grey colour. I can spot a UR pad easily, and I would have to look more closely to notice a JD pad in comparison to an original. Nothing beats original though.

The JD Pad I installed was stretched so tight the cahracter line / inward groove above the gauges was lost & I could put my thumb between the pad & the hard plastic lower dash cover around the heat controls , the original one Ihad removed was far better even after 37 years , never used another JD pad

I've been researching this as I need a pad for my 70 barracuda. I've come to the conclusion that it's a gamble no matter which vendor you pick. I'll flip a coin.
