One step forward.............three steps back on the LSD Cuda
« on: April 05, 2005 - 08:12:52 PM »
Trying to get this car together for Carlisle, but everytime I seem to make progress I'm ripping something else off of it to make it that much nicer. Car has been sitting for a long time and although the underside is mint the Dana, rear springs and front suspension looked a bit tired. Took it all off and I am in process of detailing it now. Powdercoated the K frame and other parts, didn't want to take the Dana apart so I just sanded it to bare metal and shot it with DP90 an epoxy primer. Came out pretty good.

This is the car in question, hence the name LSD Cuda. Second shot is the hood after we lightly sanded it and compounded/buffed it. The clear on this car is awesome.

That DP90 is sweet. It's an epoxy primer, semi flat black. Put about 4-5 coats on. Tough stuff, not as tough as the powdercoat but it's durable. Sprayed the rear and the springs with DP90, was too lazy to take apart the springs and rear.  ;D

I really fell in love with the 70'sw paint also. This car was bought off the original owner in 1977-78, guy did the paint on it then!! Been sitting unfinished for a long time. Luckily garaged. It is apart but I hope to get it done for Carlisle. Not sure it'll be in show field. Might just drive it out and put it in our spot where we camp/sell.

Couple more shots before I call it a night. Thanks for the words guys. Most people wouldn't think of doing this to a 71 Cuda. But, it was done a long time ago when these things weren't worth what they are now.

See you at Carlisle,

Yes, paint is the only real thing changed. Car is an original 340 / 4 speed Cuda. I have the numbers motor. Trans was swapped out for an 18 spline one and the Dana rear was put in. Other than paint the hood was sliced and hood scoops were raised, whoever fabricated it did one hell of a job.
