'70-'71 Front Bumper Filler Brackets?
« on: November 12, 2013 - 12:24:46 AM »
Can anyone post some photos (with measurements) of these brackets?  Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to try and make a pair, since they appear to be "hard-to-come-by" and/or too expensive.  Someone on another forum site offered to sell me a pair for $75.00, but I'm sorry, that's just way too much $$$ for a couple of simple flat steel brackets.  I just can't stomach paying that much.  Would appreciate any help.  Thanks.

Those are certainly not from a 71 Challenger....70 maybe, but I've never seen anything like that in 30 years of restoring E Bodies. :2cents:

I've seen these before.  It is my understanding that these brackets bolt to the outboard bumper bracket (via the bumper bolt), and are positioned in such a way that they "retain" the rubber bumper fillers in place.  FYI: This recently posted on Moparts message board.

the outer rubber fillers are held in by the notches in the bumper. if anything these would be just outer reinforcements, but I still have never seen them before. export vehicles only??

Well I guess if you read it on the internet.....It has to be true... :worshippy

On my lunch break today I looked through the 1970-71 Parts book as well as the 70 Challenger service manual and came up with nothing...no pictures of anything that looks like that related to the bumpers of a E Body.

But...in this Mopar hobby....Never say Never.... :roflsmiley:

my rubber inserts just slid into the end of the bumper & are trapped by the lack of space to remove them , no bracket

Thanks guys.  This is definitely perplexing :clueless:  There have been some new replies from members on Moparts (see link above in my earlier post).  There is most certainly a discrepancy regarding the existence/presence of these elusive mystery brackets.  I looked at my Service Manual last night for '70 Dodge Dart/Challenger, and did not see any indication of the presence or use of these brackets in the "front bumper" section.  I don't believe everything I read on the internet, but it certainly provides a boundless wealth of information.  FWIW - I've attached a couple of photos from an ebay listing I saved from 10/2006.  I don't always believe everything I see/read in ebay listings.  I have seen MANY with inaccurate descriptions.

Possibly worth considering them reproduced?

I wouldn't think so.  Not a part every Challenger needs nor did they come with.  Extremely small market and originals don't sell for much.

Possibly worth considering them reproduced?
