I'd bet rebodying is a lot more common than most people think.

Never say never, I am not convinced the car of this thread is a fake. Why you ask???? Well.....I have documentation that shows Chrysler built a JH23ROB export car painted EB9.....I also have a 71 JS23V1B with factory AC-executive SO#
These cars are still in the hands of the owners from the early 80's...maybe someday i will  tell the rest of the stories but it won't be here or that other place m@p@&ts

Tom,

I love how you pop up and drop bombs here about near-mythical cars.  You really keep my imagination going!  I would love to see pics of the documentation mentioned above, if you don't mind sharing that is.  Also any new info on this car you mentioned previously BS23R2B10004X.

I too think that there is a possibility that this T/A is legit.  Just need the car to be forensically examined to prove or disprove.

The whole reasoning for the factory to make the T/A, makes the idea of a 440 T/A kind of....well....ridiculous.  :2cents:

Tom Quad, I doubt you have any documentation. It's a fricken car, not national security. If you have docs, post'em up.

I think I understand what you're saying, and I kind of agree. OTOH (assuming we're talking about the motivation for making the TA in the first place, I would add that Ford made the Boss 302 for the same reason, but that didn't stop them from making a Boss 429.

My take would be that Chrysler has always been chronically short of money, and that they probably would have liked to keep the TA builds as simple as possible, i.e., no drivetrain swapouts. However, what would have happened if a guy walked into a dealer and said "I want a 440-6 car, but can you build it with TA stripes, please?"

I don't know if a 440 6 Pack that was not made for racing and made more as a "toy" for Mopar is that far out reach.  After all they made the Diamante show car that was pretty radical.   :2cents:

I wouldn't put it past a guy back then in the Mopar office to think, "Hey, if a 340 6 Pack T/A Challenger is cool, what about a 440 6 Pack that we already have lying around?"  We know what made it to production but we'll never know all the weird creations that were in the back room and maybe one or two escaped into the public.  Maybe this is just a fantasy of mine but I think back then anything is possible would be cool to think that.

About 4 -5 years ago I went to get some magazines off an older gentleman and got to talking to him.  He said his son worked for Ford and was test driving a Mustang with 1,000hp in developmental stages.  Never know what is cooking behind closed doors.

Not saying this car in particular is a real factory made car but just saying like others have said never say never.  I'm no expert but would be cool if this really is a factory made car.  :dunno:

You know it's been a good 44 years since all these cars came off the line. I would think that these cars would have been talked about with folks like Barry, Galen, back then Dick Landy, Dan Gurney, etc.

So the idea of some mythical unicorn popping out 44 years later seems pretty far fetched but hey I'd love to see some documentation. Until then it's pure speculation and I've got a bridge to sell you.

:iagree: they are stories, but that doesn't make them impossible. As for Galen, I think you can pay him to document anything you need documented  :roflsmiley:

Good point, but they didn't keep it a secret (that held for 40 years)

All true.

Again, if there is any validity to this, my money would be on some guy going into a dealer and odering a 440-6 car with TA trim. To me, that would not make it a TA, however, so I too think it's unlikely that a 440-6 TA exists. This would be (in my story) a 440-6 car that wa made to look like a TA from the factory.
