It is an awesome looking car :wavingflag: i love the paint scheme, it is wicked.
That fact is that for a Challenger to be an R/T it has to start with the vinof JS, your starts with JH which means it is just a Challenger, the conflict is having JH with the V code which means 440 6 pack, 440 6 pack was never ever avaialble from anywhere as standard fitment from the factory in a JH car............. can you see why people are saying what theyare saying ?
All said and done, it looks tuff, and you should tear the wheels from it with some really wicked skids :ylsuper:

But we all should know by know"never say never" when it comes to these old Mopars. There are cars out there with documneted wrong vin numbers and options that should n`t be possible. Wihout documentation there is no proof but  :dunno:

Since you want to go down this road, please post close up photos of the cowl and radiator VIN stampings.  Also post photos of the front and rear torque boxes and the T/A hangers.

Did the person who did the restoration provide ANY photos of the car before it was taken apart and restored?  I'm sure I know the answer, but lets start with you saying "no" and telling us that the most rare and unique car in all the e-body history has NO known original photos or documentation before it was restored.

Hi guys I posted the dad and everyone that's says its a fake it's there opinion because I have studied the stampings and they are not fake at all. And there is a document on the internet that proves TA were a thought in May of 69 those documents are on the all par website. To anyone that has proof of any info about the car plz get back with me, the car is in my garage and will be there if anyone wants to look at it fill free to get ahold of me and u can look at it. I know everyone's got opinions but I need facts I know there has to be someone that knows something?

It is a cool car with a nice engine as the others have said.  Very patriotic.  Would definitely get that car into some July Forth car shows, IMO.

Funny thing is that I have a Rallye hood that would match that car as it is in blue and has the same stars on it.  72challengorange (I forget exactly) Challenger's was painted in a similar flag paint scheme and I got the hood from his car as it was cut for a tunnel ram.
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

If real, we're not talking talking about a small piece of history.  This could be one of the most highly desirable and most rare ebody's ever built.  If you really think for a second that the car is real you have to get some documentation to back it up.  If the car has no known history before the restoration your only option is to get an industry expert that has the knowledge and credibility to authenticate the car.  There are many people who can do that for you.  I would suggest someone like Barry Washington, Galen Govier, Frank Badalson or Roger Gibson.  For a little time and money you would know exactly what you have.

I feel that if it's as rare as the owner thinks it is, then it's very deserving of a 100 point OE Resto.

I think the car should be taken apart 100% and restored back to 100% stock original.

It would be a very interesting car and I'm sure once completed, every auto museum in the world would fight to have the only one known in existence on display.

Right now, I wouldn't even consider driving it because the extra miles will only hurt it's collectability value. :2cents:

The guy that owned it before him, said it was real...and then there was that guy at the gas station who remembers it from back in the day when his uncle worked at a dealership that ordered special cars directly from Chrysler's advanced engineering department, cars that were never meant for public sale. Plus the lady across the street says it's real, so he's good to go :2thumbs:

I say tear it apart, document all the proto type design aspects of the car like torque boxes etc....then spend $$$ spend $$$ spend $$$....Give it the best 100% OE Gold restoration the car deserves ! :drunk:
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

Proving it's real and proving it was possible are not the same.

If real, we're taking about a possible million dollar car.  If you can prove it's a real I'm sure it would be well worth your time and money.  Not just the rarity of it, but the very first T/A ever built, the only one built in LA, the only 440 Six Pack T/A in history.  These are not little odd undesirable options, these are some of the coolest options in all of Mopars.

:iagree: ...but, from a logical standpoint, you can never prove it's real. Some doubt would always remain. You can prove it false, and if you can't prove it's false then you can only say "It's possibly real, but the chances of real are vanishingly slim."

Now, my belief based on your prior statements is that you know much more about the car than you've told us publicly, that you're pretty certain (as certain as can be) that it's fake, and that you're probably correct. But I also agree with the person who said "Never say never," and this was a period when anything that could be physically made to fit within the car's boundaries could be ordered. Combined with the fact that there's zero documentation put's this one in the 99.99 percent certainty of it being a fake.

Drive it and enjoy it as for the issues already stated about the car has cast a low cloud over it.

Unless you get someone to authenticate it it's most likely a fake.

So you bought what you thought was a winning lottery ticket, last number is a 9 and not a 0.
Oh well 5 out of 6 isn't bad, enjoy it for what it is.  Super cool / unique driver.

If seller could prove this was such a rare car why would he let it go for ~30k? thats not even driver quality normal 340 T/A prices.

if this thing were documented 100% real and it were a pile of rust it would be worth 30k and Alan would be going nuts to restore it.

You have  yourself a very nice car as is! I hope you enjoy it and drive the wheels off it.
That said, if it really is what you believe it is and you have some proof that it is authentic it would probably be wise to lay it out here for all to see. If there is no proof it will be very hard to convince anyone that this car is legit. Word of mouth and hearsay will never cut it in the "numbers" world. I really appreciate the really rare, numbers matching and authentic cars. I've been down that road and decided it was more money and headache than I wanted to deal with for a car I would rather be driving. That's why I drive a clone myself. Good luck on your new ride.

If the car was purchased because of the numbers, then you are doing yourself and the car a disservice by not pursuing a full investigation in confirming those numbers.  Like many have said, there shouldn't be a JH23V  car in existence.  There are a lot of cars that shouldn't exist.  But here you go having one.  There are only 2 logical reasons why you have a JH23V car.  It was built by the factory (on purpose or by accident) or it was faked by someone.  When I first bought my 72 convertible, the first thing I did was decode every number I could find.  No fender tag or build sheet so all I had was my JH23G vin and some matching body stampings.  I quickly learned I had a plain Jane 318 hardtop that was butchered.  Oh well, I didn't find a Holy Grail car, but it's still fun as hell to drive and enjoy.

Which brings me to my second point:  If the car wasn't purchased because of the numbers, Congratulations!  You're the kind of person this hobby needs, someone who enjoys the car, not treats it like the Mona LIsa and keeps it as an investment piece.  In that case, drive the wheels off it and enjoy arguing with the "Mopar experts" who read your VIN at a cruise night.
Yes I own a 1972 Dodge Challenger Convertible T/A S/E with a 440 Six Pak. Can it get any more wrong?
