Find someone on a police force or licence bureau that can run a "History" on that VIN. The history will give you the list of previous owners. If your lucky enough to have a police friend have him run the VIN through every State. If you find a history on the VIN that goes back to the 80's or earlier its likely that your car is REAL. From there you can call the previous owners and start your documentation!  Remember 5 years ago everyone would have said that an XP29J9 HEMI Charger was fake until one surfaced and documented by Govier as being real.

  There are only 2 logical reasons why you have a JH23V car.  It was built by the factory (on purpose or by accident) or it was faked by someone.  When I first bought my 72 convertible, the first thing I did was decode every number I could find.  No fender tag or build sheet so all I had was my JH23G vin and some matching body stampings.  I quickly learned I had a plain Jane 318 hardtop that was butchered.  Oh well, I didn't find a Holy Grail car, but it's still fun as hell to drive and enjoy.

I advertise it for what it is (now).  I didn't go and get a new VIN tag made up as a JS27V2B    And I never said it was born that way.  The goal of the car is to kinda make it as wrong as possible with factory options.  I may just get A/C installed along with the Six Pack for good measure!

There was a guy on e-bay trying to sell a 1972 convertible for ages claiming it was a factory original car. He wanted unreal money. it was gold.

I'm sure its still for sale. It is supposedly one of the cars built for the TV  show the Mod Squad. That car is actually a 1971 built with 1972 parts at least it has some history unlike the one we are discussing.

And even on that one, it's debatably still a 71. The factory modified the car, but they didn't re-issue a 72 VIN.

I'm not claiming anything I'm sorry if I come off like I am I'm just trying to get to bottom of it. I know in my heart if someone spent the time to fake it why would they only charge me 30000 and the best part is even if it Is fake which it hasn't been proven yet i still got one hell of a car. You are welcome and good luck in your search, i already know the result as a lot of other people here do also, you need to accept what is being said, but by no means if you feel you need to chase what you believe to be true, that is entirely up to you yourself, every one who knows has been trying to tell you what IS, and we can not do any better than that. The rest is up to you and good luck, you do still have one heck of a nice car with wherever your endevour takes you on your own personal voyage to your own personal truth

I think you are missing the point Schoena440, in the numbers matching world, it doesn't matter if u think CODY or Alan are right, you can sit there in denial and keep claiming the car is real because you feel "no one has proven it fake" but that's just the thing, it doesn't matter if it's been proven fake, in the #s world, it only matter that if u can't prove that it's REAL.  Gonna be hard to do with no documention.  As for your comment "if Simone spent the time to fake it why would they only charge me 30,000" that's just more information hurting your argument, if it was real it would be the rarest challenger ever built, and would sell for 10x what you paid. There would have been a reserve on the auction for 150k if it was real

I've been saying for years, and it hits me every time I'm at Carlisle: 1 Hemi/440-6/TA car is cool, two are really cool, and 100 is a statistic. After a while I get overloaded seeing the "same" cars again and again. But a 72 convertible TA...that is truly rare

That's exactly the point and that's exactly how the scam works.  The price is just low enough to make the scam believable to some, because no one is going to risk $300,000 (more or less) on an unsubstantiated, unknown and widely doubted car, not without some paperwork to back it up.
