    Hey Guys, :wave:

    I have been working away at something NEW.................. :working:

    I thought i would share a sneak peak at what stage i have my PROTOTYPE NEW designed Slap-Stick shifter at, and see if anyone is interested. Here is a link to the wooden grips that inspired me to build this whole NEW design shifter.

    I thought this would be a better place to open a discusion and see other peoples views and comments.

    I have built this as the exact same height, and all the bends are the same as what a manual stick is, when the gear stick on a manual car is shifted, the angles of the shifter in first gear is the same as my shifter when in Park, when you shift to second gear, that angle is the same as when my shifter is in Low, but when the manual stick is in Neutral, that angle is the same as when my shifter handle is in Drive.
    The way my shifter handle works is by pushing the entire shifter down and it is spring loaded.

    The actual finished product will be branded along the main arm just like a Manual stick, but it will have my very own logo apon the main arm, these shifter handles will be triple chrome plated, i will have to do these mechanisms at an exchange style sale, i can buy and change NEW original Slap-Stick mechanisms, but that is expensive, i will modify your Slap-Stick mechanism to take the exact same original parts as used on the Factory Original Manual shifter handles. I am hoping to have a run of these NEW Slap-Stick style shifters available early in the new year, i will also be numbering every shifter i make like a VIN code and keeping records of them.

    My shifters take all the original plastic grips, i have got Jason at Gunslinger on board and he is the supplier for the chrome bezels and lenses, and the simulated wooden grips.
    As for the beautiful custom wooden grips in all different colours and wood types, C-C member Rob (roy282) makes them, they all fit on too.

    I will be showcasing more of the grip when i have made further advancements for viewing purposes.
    I will attach a video to show the workings of the shifter and what advancements i have mad to the old style Slap-Stick mechanism when they are ready for ordering. :2thumbs:
    Hope you guys like it as i feel very proud to be able to bring a part of me to everyone who considers buying one when they are ready for sale. :wave:
    Remember this is the PROTOTYPE or DEMO if you like, and the finish product will be that much nicer i gaurantee :swaying:

    It is so nice to use, i have reworked the selector so it has a proper neutral lock out as required for drag racing, pulling it back from Park sounds so mechanical that it is cool. The mechanism also will go from Low to Drive in one slow smooth action, then when you want to Slap it for speed shifting, the mechanism will hold each gear from Low to Second and then to Drive.

    I like where you are going with this.  I have a couple of questions/suggestions.
    I see you are using a standard (4 speed) shift lever.  How difficult would it be to modify/ build a lever which would not put the grip so far forward?  It looks awkward for an automatic in my opinion.  I think the handle should be more upright as with the one it is pictured with.   Also, how about tilting the handle somewhat towards the driver, not much, but a little to better fit the natural position of the hand a wrist.

    Don’t take my comments as criticism, just friendly suggestion.  :cooldancing:

    I love it as is.  I actually like the way it sits in Park.... and in 1-2-D it should be very comfy.  The ball style shifter is a tad too far forward for my likings. Great work Kenny  :bigshades:   Can`t wait to see one in my car   :cooldancing:

    You are close, my shifter handle is very close to a 4 speed shifter handle, there are a few tweaks i had to do to make the top work with my design for the lower section in the mechanism.
    I had already thought about the different things you have made suggestions on, the problem with tweaking the handle over towards the driver is that you will not be able to keep a smooth shift, you will continually put side loaded pressure where you do not want the extra load, the shifter was designed to glide up and down and back'n'forth....... Tthe simulated Plastic grips, and Rob's custom wooden grips lend themselves to making your hand hug the grip so comfortably, that it is uncanny.... for real :grinyes:
    I looked and looked and looked at the travel of the shifter and where it sits in every gear, then i thought :thinkerg: No one can drive the car in Park anyway, so make the shifter as comfortable as possible for shifting from 1st to Drive and Reverse. And to be truthful, the shifter because of it's height and the way it bends back before it bends forward, is so easy to reach even in Park.

    I did look at doing this at one stage and the work involved in trying to have something internal is a nightmare, it would be very costly to do also, the other problem i saw, was how high a button sits up from a round 1970 shifter knob, they have soo much travel it is not funny, the button would hang out too far for my liking, that is if you could get past the internals working on a 3 way bent flat shaft :faint: But i did think about it.

    Thank you so much for your encouragement too, i think it is proportioned just right myself also, i also have found the ball shifter and the T bar shifter just like you say, just that little bit too far forward, my shifter is up higher and back that little bit to make it comfortable to hold and shift in any and every gear :burnout:
    I can not wait to have them all finished and the small set backs all worked out and ready for you to put one in your car also :jumping: :bigsmile:

    I am glad you like it too buddy. I did notice that you run another style of shifter in your 1970 Challenger from ages ago :clapping:
    The shifter is very comfortable and easy to use, imagine instead of pulling that trigger you have in yours and just a simple pushing down of the entire shifter to do the exact same function as the trigger, my shifter is completely re-engineered and totally my own design, it was a nightmare to make everything work internally inside the flat 8mm thick shifter arm and keep it all tight and smooth sliding, i have done a lot of research to get the spring weights right to make this shifter as comfortable to use as possible.
    Wait until i do have one ready totally in full chrome, i will test them thouroghly and i will take a youtube video to show the workings and how easy it is to use, you will even appreciate the extra qualities that i have built in. I think you will like the video old mate :bigsmile:

    You're going to need a spring loaded "fake" clutch pedal to go with that thing ! :burnout:

    I just looked at the four speed in my garage, I think you got the angles spot on :2thumbs:

    My only suggestion would be to shorten it a little bit, maybe an inch or so...

    I will have to put an interior around it and not make it the focal point, so it does not look so tall, once i have the arms engraved with the name and logo, they will not look so tall or long, i think it is because their is a smooth surface on the arm that gives it an optical illusion of being longer. When i have an arm ready i will post up and look then. :2thumbs:
