I've used two of them so far, real nice piece. I just ordered a third from Dave at Roseville, he puts together a complete package with the latch/ashtray/top plate etc....nice deal !

That's would be a true testament to how high the cost of these items are going, when you have to take out a loan to buy a console and then it gets repoed.

Hey anlauto, any chance of posting some good quality pics of the unit you sourced from Roseville? I ordered one from Year One and its really cheap and an obvious Chinese quality reproduction.

Its so bad I don't think I'm gonna use it and look for another better quality unit. I am converting from a 70 to a 71-74 console as I don't want the seat belt slots and not that fussed about keeping it year correct. BTW i got a repro top plate from PG which looks to be good quality, but the fit into the Year One console is far from perfect. I'm not sure it its the console or top plate that's out.

I'm getting real tired of poor quality 'reproduction' parts. Living in Australia it takes 8 weeks to find out the parts you were waiting on are junk!

Don't really think it will matter though, I believe there is only one manufacture of these.

I bought mine from Tony's Parts a couple years ago at the Mopar Nats.  I opened the box when I got back to my Durango.  I was not impressed.  The PS grain pattern was all messed up.  I took it right back.  I was told that the grain gets distorted when the part is removed from the mould.  Some are worse then others.  He searched in the trailer and found one that was better...not perfect by any means.  Since my original one was cracked and since originals go for stupid money, I went with the repop.

When I got home, I test fit my original top plate and it wasn't even close to fitting.  I emailed Tony and he said he's seen that before too.  The console deforms when it's taken out of the mould.  I bought a replacement top plate for $15, took a grinder to it to make it fit the console, and finally installed a new decal.  It looks fine but it was a PITA to get it to fit.

BTW i got a repro top plate from PG which looks to be good quality, but the fit into the Year One console is far from perfect. I'm not sure it its the console or top plate that's out.

I bought a repop top plate from BE&A and it was HUGE.  It was way bigger and thicker then the original ones.  The woodgrain sticker was a joke too.  Totally wrong color and the wood lines were all blurry.  It fit the console worse then an original top plate.  I sold it this past summer for a $20 loss.  I made sure to tell they guy how it fit on my console before he bought it.

Ive had time to muck around with the console now..

I got one from Year One. It was a cheap Chinese piece. I am probably sure they are all coming out of the same factory though.

The top plate was also from Year One (thought it was PG)  which was a top quality looking piece. I got rid of the woodgrain on favor of carbon decals for Detroit Muscle, which i am using for the dash and door panels too.

The top plate didn't fit the console perfectly. The front of the console seems to be a bit distorted and the plate wont fit nice. With some massaging it will it but is not great. I put the original factory auto top plate on the new dash and it fit almost perfect except for the same spot at the front of the console. I think its a combination of both console and top plate not being a perfect replica is terms of shape.

The side of Year One console doesn't fit together at the seams that good also (see pic). All round I'd rate the console as very average and the top plate as good - but not perfect.

Repro ashtray looks good, but fit again is not perfect. I'd rather pay double for good rerop than what it around at the moment IMO.

Decals from Detroit Muscle are A1 though!

Mine was like that except it was in the rear...not the front.  I had to grind the top plate down to fit.  It also didn't fit just to the ps of the shifter opening.  I had to take some material off there as well.  I also put a bevel on the bottom of the top plate on the ds.  That let the plate sit down into the console a little nicer.

The repro top plate itself looked very nice.  The woodgrain was awful.  However, when you compare it to an original, you can see that it's a lot larger then it should be.
