How much torque can a 3 spd manual handle?

Anyone know how torque a 3spd manual trans can handle?

I had one behind a 318 in my first car, a 73 Challenger and it wasn't too lame.  I thought about using one in a project, but wondered how much motor it will take.

I'm also looking for a shifter and linkage for one.

It must be decent , the factory had them behind 383 mags
