Another new member from OZ
« on: November 23, 2013 - 03:50:53 PM »
Hi,
I am a new member from Central Queensland, Australia. I have in the past owned OZ & US muscle cars, in particular Fords and until just recently a Ferrari Testarossa. During all of these I have always like the E Bodies & have decided that now is the time. As you may expect pickings here in OZ are a bit thin on the ground but I have recently come across something that has really got me interested. It is an R code 70 Hemi Cuda, that is currently undergoing a resto. It has a matching vin, fender tag and cowl vin but does not have a matching numbers block. It was used for many years as a drag car & I believe it came from Cleveland Missouri in about 2010. I am looking to go & check this car out but any info that you can share on what to look for would be very much appreciated.
Cheers
Nigel :)

Hi Nigel! Welcome to the site. Lots of good people here.

Looking at a R-code Cuda eh? Whew! You must be well healed in order to be shopping for one of those! Being relatively new to Mopars, and with that kind of money to be thrown down to get a true R-code, I would seriously look at finding a broker, agent, knowledgeable authority, ect., ect., there in Oz to go look at the car with you.

I was lucky enough to have owned a true HemiCuda from 83 to 86. Back then I didn't know much about "numbers matching" other than the VIN having a "R" in the fith place and there being a Hemi under the hood. I had no idea if the block was the one the car was born with or not. There were probably a lot of things that were not "correct" on that car. I didn't care, it was a HemiCuda and it was mine. When I bought it in 83 I paid $11,500 for it. If I was able to aford shopping for a true R-code today I would probably be a nervous wreck considering that they are going for 15-20 times what I paid for mine!

Once again, welcome and good luck in your pursuit of the ultimate E-body!

WELCOME to the site from another Aussie :aussie: Where in central Queensland are you from ? I am in Warwick, Queensland myself
What colour is the `Cuda you are looking at ? Does it have a fender tag at all and do you have the details on the fender tag, it would be unreal to have the original R-code block with the car, but at the end of the day if it is a real R-code, that is a huge investment, particularly if it has a racing history that can be documented also :2thumbs:
Look forward to hearing more and meeting you some time Nigel

Thanks for the welcome.
No, not particularly well healed. Just been a little bit astute and had a fair bit of luck over the years to build up little by little to where I am able to look at an R code now. I am in Gladstone, CQ. As I indicated, it does have the vin tag, vin on the cowl & fender tag but does not have the numbers matching block. Vitamin C in colour. It is a big outlay so I need to be as sure as I can before outlaying the cash. As far as E body authorites go I am not sure if there are any in OZ, so if anyone knows one I would be interested to know.
Cheers
Nigel
