Scariest "high" speed run was 85 +/- 5 mph in a "77 Dodge Diplomat 27' RV.
The 4bbl stuck WO going up a hill and no matter how much my mom tried to get them to release we just kept haulin' as we reached the flats again.
Tried the brakes, but that much mass moving that fast (with power to spare - 440 4bbl) just doesn't like to slow down.
With her standing on the brake pedal we finally got down to around 45 going up another steep incline and she made the decision to get the **** off the road.
We took a 90* turn at that speed and I'm not kidding when I say we were nearly on only the DS wheels.
She threw it into park (all hell sounding like it was breaking loose in the trans) and we finally started really slowing down.
With the motor wailing to high heaven she shut it all down, but at that point there was enough RPMs that the motor ran until the carb emptied.
Lets just say I spent the rest of the trip home in the lead vehicle my dad was driving.
Oh yeah, when we got home, we found out our little high speed exit off the highway snapped the leaf spring on the DS.
Good times.
