I had my 67 charger up to about 155-160mph out in the nevada desert with more pedal to go. My tires felt like  they were made of rock, my wipers were fluttering wildly,  a pice of windshield moulding flew off  the front end felt like it was starting to float.  then I backed off,  and it took almost a mile to slow down to even think about using brakes.   I took a while but I found the windshield trim that launched  :woo:

Doesn't really count as "driving" per se, but a couple of weekends ago I went to Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi. While there I was on the Formula Rossa, the fastest roller coaster in the world, which hits 148 mph, in an open ride vehicle. It was a blast.

Well, all I can say is a 67 Charger must be much more aerodynamic than a Challenger as after 120-130 you can't steer anymore, no way you can drive 160MPH in a stock Challenger the front end lifts.

Ive checked out Ferrari world online and google earthed it. Absolutely Incredible.
The money they have over there boggles my mind.
That kind of development used to happen here, and should be/could be happening again with a few changes and getting back to our competitive roots.
For instance, used to be skilled guys like you wouldnt have to travel half way around the world to make things happen. Ought to be able to do it right here at home.

Thanks for the thought. Worse things have happened, and it's not all bad. Before I came here I thought I'd never be able to travel the world at all, but in a year and a half I've been to India, Paris, Amsterdam and London, as well as the closer destinations like Abu Dhabi and Bahrain. I'll be in Italy in a couple of weeks, and I've got plans for New Zealand, Japan and Africa.

I also did the Ferrari simulators at Ferrari world, but I found them underwhelming. I could not get the thing to break traction in a corner.

I run my '67 Charger in the Silver State Classic.  I've had it at 145 both with and without aero mods.  With the 5" airdam off the bottom of the front bumper it was definitely was more secure - planted to the road.  Without it, it was plenty drivable, just a handfull.  We hold that speed for exactly 90 miles each time.

Here's a few videos from course workers of old runs in the 125 class:

Until a few weeks ago the fastest I had ever driven was 130 in my 81 Z when we took a road trip to TJ from IL ... with a detour for the Bonneville salt flats on the way home. I was 18 at the time and my rear end didn't unclench until I turned 19.

Like 170bcuda, there was floating, violently fluttering wipers, and rocks for tires. Unlike 170bcuda I didn't have anymore pedal and my window trim remained intact .... my wipers and passenger side wiper arm not so much.

Then a few weeks ago I hooked up with a guy north of Chicago to get some input on a 6 speed auto from TCI and we took his Yenko mod clone out for a spin. Then we took his supercharged C5 out ... I didn't drive, but we hit 155 for about 4 consecutive miles on a completely open 90/94 going into IN. I'm still clenching I think.

Buried the 150 mph speedometer in a 70 Challenger R/T 383 magnum (tunnel ram and other high pro stuff) in 1983; and average 120 mph for 33 miles going to work on a Saturday morning..... The stupid stuff I did as a teenager.....

The scary part of the ride was when I lifted off to much to soon at a high speed and the rear suspension of the car lifted up about 6 inches and started to come around, but hey what could I do but get back on... :burnout:

We did a summer vacation trip to Germany, and drove on the Autobahn 152 mph with my Chrysler 300 SRT8. Would have gone faster , but the traffic was too much because it was daytime. Maybe next time...

145 MPH in a 2014 Porsche Carrera 4S.  Start to stop in less than a 1/2 mile.  The torque in this thing was amazing and the brakes are HUGE!

not very exciting except to me at the time. wayway back ..... friend had a '70 Barracuda with a bone stock 318 2bbl auto, swapped the 2.93 gears for a 3.23 posi (dropped his 1/4 mile times to 16sec flat, shaved @ .25). on a trip back from bellingham/WA to spokane/WA we had it over 120 (not sure exact #s as the needle was pegged). at the time I didn't think a 318 could do 120+

You are right about the front end seeming to 'float' Brad (at high speeds). My buddies have been bugging the crap out of me to run my Challenger on the track. It is scary as crap right now with stock suspension and air shocks in the back. With well over 600 ponies, when I stomp it going say 55mph, the front end lifts & the car floats all over the lane (I can keep it in the lane, but it floats around) and it just accelerates stupid fast up to 120-130. Until I get some mods done to the suspension, I don't expect to make a decent pass down the 1/4 mile and it does seem to float as Brad mentioned. Actually kinda scary!!  :22yikes:

Fastest I went was about 120 MPH on two different cars many years apart. First on a 99 Civic EX 5 speed, any faster will hit the speed limiter. It was my daily driver and not a rice bucket. Many years later, 2012 Challenger SRT8 got to that speed on 6th gear OD, wasn't even trying and plenty to go. But I just don't like going that fast. I am kind of the 0-60 instant acceleration type.
