    G's 1973 Dodge Challenger

    Hi all!  My first car was a 1973 dodge challenger and I still have her, 36 years later.  That’s longer than my wife  :).  Last year I finally decided to redo it, a 2nd time.  It’s in the shop getting a complete overhaul (or until the funds run out).  I’ll post pictures as they become available.  I’ll post one of it originally and then two in 2011 before the flatbed took it away.  The body is pretty much solid but the engine needed to be redone as well as the interior.  I’ll be changing the paint, an interesting topic around the house.  I’ll be changing it completely different again.  Sorry in advance for those who like the original.  I do too but it’s time for something different again.  I also found out the engine is not original (It's a 72 challenger block  :().

    And i am reallt digging those hubcaps, they look right in place, good looking car overall. :bananasmi :bigsmile:

    The top picture is my original color.  I believe they call it bright blue.  I went to a dark blue in the 80s (I know even know why anymore) and it has been that way ever since.  I'm now considering either light green metallic or plum crazy.  The light green metallic is a 73 color but as you all know, plum crazy is a 70-71 color.  I would have considered going back to the bright blue but I found out the engine was not the original.  I bought it in 76 when I was 18 and didn't know the guy before me had most likely blew the engine and replaced it with a 72 challenger engine.  So now I decided to do my own thing.  I'll start a restoration tab soon and you can track it there.  Nice to see people like me keeping their cars ... feels like family.   :cheers:

    I love seeing the old pics!  In the first pic, was the color Super Blue?  Looks similar to my car but I have the black top and blue interior.  Same body side molding too! My car came with the hubcaps new from the factory like in your other pics.

    So assuming from your name the car is getting a G machine resto?  Ought to be cool!  :grinyes:

    1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

    Thanks Super Blue!   I stand corrected.   :thumbsup:   It does look more like super blue.  The memory is the first thing to go.  Sigh!    :(

    The top photo is the original car as I bought it.  The only exception is I added the wheels and rims.  When they were shot, I went back to stock tires and hubcaps.  Aside from the engine and a fender, the rest of the car is original.  Problem is ... it's all worn out.   

    Here is the interior of the car back in the late 70s.

    Restoration is already started.  Engine almost done but what a mess.  1 cylinder damaged and a cracked manifold.  Making progress though.  Paint to be decided on shortly.  Engine bay first on the list.

    Hey G, welcome to the site!  Wow....'73 was a GOOD year for me too.  Still have my gold fish 40 years later. 
    I like the wheel covers also, it makes your tires look meaty.  Glad you found us.
