T/A spoilers
« on: December 02, 2013 - 08:38:58 PM »
Step mother is wanting to get the both T/A spoilers for my Dad for Christmas for his 73 Challenger, did a quick google search and saw prices all over the place. Who makes/sells the best quality product, etc? Thanks for the help

Check with member mopardave. He runs roseville moparts.  I just bought a T/A spoiler from him.  Best price,  fast shipping,  and quality mopar licensed product.

If not Roseville Moparts, then DALE'S CUDA SHOP for sure ! Dale is the manufacture of a lot of the spoilers out there. :2cents:

Not to take away from Dave at all, but now that you mentioned it, I remember the box mine came in had Dales cuda shop on it.  :dupe:

However I have a wholesale account with DCS  and they are one of the best as well.....

I noticed the ones at Dales Cuda shop don't show a year listed. Will they properly fit all 70-74 Challengers?

T/A spoilers were only used for one year.  After 71 there were no spoiler options (or was it 72?).  So a 73/74 would never have had a spoiler.

I am not sure if the later year decklids have the cut outs in the structure to mount a spoiler.  However I see a lot of spoiler mounted on later cars, so I am guessing the structure of the decklid does support them.

Some of the front T/A spoilers on the market are made of fiberglass and they will crack easily, so, in my opinion, consider avoiding the fiberglass front spoilers.   The plastic types actually absorb and flex better with resistance from cracking.. the plastic fronts are the same as OE.

How do the front spoilers attach?

The new spoilers should come with the attching bolts... drilled holes will be required into the front valence.  Its important to be aware that there is a left/right.  I've had mine installed so that the sharper angle of the spoiler is outside (near the turn signal light), and the center gap between them is definitely apart.. not touching each other, perhaps by about 1.5-2 inches.

The cool thing about these front split spoiler is that a floor jack can typically be rolled underneath to lift the car at the K-frame (maybe a slight bumper hand lift might be needed for a 1/2 inch or so pending the size of the jack), then... the jack handle will fit between the spoiler's split center opening... conveniant!

I'm planning to incorporate brake cooling ducts into a set of these spoilers (using Rigid or Craftsman shop-vac floor ends.. either 1-7/8" tube which fits perfectly, or else the 2.5" tube will need some modifications);  possibly, may also get 2-sets of spoilers and make them wider towards the fenders (heat gun to re-shape around the turn signal).

I like front decals on the spoilers.. MOPAR, DODGE, tire brands, etc.  (been required for some clubs that I autocross/race in).

T/Ake care!  Good luck!  An excellent gift!!! ... a lucky man!

Yes both the front and rear spoilers will fit all 1970-74 Challengers as far as the outside goes.
As mentioned the T/A rear spoiler was only offered on the T/A and never available past 1970.

When adding the rear T/A spoiler to a later model car you will have to drill holes both on the outside of the trunk lid, and large access holes on the inside of the trunk lid.

The front spoilers were available up into the 1971 model year and simply require you to drill holes in your front valance.

That's what I had to do to mount the T/A spoiler on the back of my car.

I got a fiberglass deck lid from us body source that had the t/a style spoiler molded on.  Uses all the factory holes and bolts and cost about the same as just buying a spoiler    :2cents:
