Space Saver Spare - Orig or Repro? What Car?
« on: December 05, 2013 - 11:26:47 PM »
Hi - When I bought my 70 Challenger it came with some extra parts I am not using, including a space saver spare.  Was going to put it up on Ebay, and wondered if it was an original/NOS or a repro.  Is there an easy way to tell the diff?  I also wondered what car it goes to since most forum postings say E-Bodies used 14" spares only.

Mine has the following info:  Tire (outside): Goodyear  G78-15   MPVV CUA 157   Custom Mini-Space.  Tire (inside): Goodyear  G78-15   Custom Mini-Space   244801-GSS-IMZ    Made in USA   Tubeless.  Wheel (outside):  M37 (stamped by bolt holes);  3699117 (stamped above valve stem); 37 1 18 Chrysler Pentastar logo (stamped either side of valve stem).  Wheel (inside) has various stampings at different orientations: 15 x 5 1/2 JJ;   Made in USA;   MW;  868; 1; 77; 18; 1; 3 with a circle around it.  Tire is looking like it never hit the road, has faint white lettering on tread: V V C U.  Wheel is gloss black, no rust, caution sticker in good shape, peeling slightly on edges.

Thanks much.

I don't think Chrysler ever used GoodYear space saver spares in 1970-71... :clueless: They were all BF Goodrich if I recall.

I'm not a space saver expert but I'm pretty sure all cars that had 15" wheels got the space saver spare.(if a spare was ordered)  14" wheel cars got the black steel wheel for a spare.

Other manufacturers used space saver spares...not just Chrysler.

Good year made the Polyglas tires the car came with so wouldn't the spare be the same brand?

I have no idea, but the correct space saver spare for a 70-71 is a BF Goodrich :2cents:

I just bought this same space saver tire at a swap meet, has anyone replied with what car this came from?
