mopar newb, looking for advice and knowledge
« on: December 06, 2013 - 11:44:05 AM »
:1zhelp:  I am relativly new to the mopar way of life, but I have deep respect and admiration for all American Muscle cars. I currently own (my first mopar) a 2011 Challenger SE(I know....I know....not a real muscle car because its not a V8.... :'(). In the near future when I retire from the army, I am seriously considering selling the 2011 for a 1970/71 challenger or 'cuda. I havent realy made up my mind, and dont truly have a preference towards either one. What I am looking to get out of it is a daily driver, as close to 600HP as possible, quasi-resto-moded car. I want to be able to drive it hard and fast at anytime, but yet be able to drive it to and from work. Dont care about shows, matching numbers, or anything of those things that would make it super expensive. I understand more power comes at a price, and I'd like to stay within a modest reasonable amount when all is said and done. Not only am I looking for direction, but I also want to understand the why and the how. So, if I can at least be pointed in the right direction on where to find all the info I seek, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for any help, and I'm sure ill be back with a million more questions.

First of all welcome to the site, I think you will find the wealth of knowledge here is incredible.  If you are looking to daily drive an e-body and be close to 600hp you will need a big block, there are a lot of different builds on this site you can read up on for ideas.  In the mean time, enjoy the comfort and quiet......and fuel economy of your new chally!   :2thumbs:

Howdy & welcome to CC.com. Great folks with tons of experience and friendly advice. A decent stroker motor can get you in the HP range. As already mentioned, there's a lot of info here already posted in various threads. Got any questions....just ask!

If you want to daily drive the car, EFI is probably the way to go...especially if you live in a part of the country where the weather or elevation varies a lot.  EFI will also get you a little better fuel economy.  There are kits to add EFI to older engines, but you might be better off if you can get a good modern engine from a salvage vehicle,  there are a few people here who are swapping modern hemis into their older cars.

You'd also save quite a bit if you were interested in the later (72-74) cars.  They sell for quite a bit less.  Of course they may not meet your criteria when it comes to looks.

Welcome to the site. I don't think there are two many people here who would argue with a new Challenger, so even those of use with a strong preference for the old still respect the new.

Hi and welcome to the site. It will take some digging thru the archieves, but everything you want to know is probably here ... somewhere. A career Army guy eh? Thank you for your service. I'm a retired Army Blackhawk driver myself. What do you do for the Army?
Cheers!

Modest and reasonable amount should not be used in the same sentence with a 70-71 E Body.To get 600hp you are looking at 8k or more  for a complete motor.

If you really want to drive this daily, modern motor with EFI and supercharger.
Going to get old really fast trying to drive a 600hp 440 that gets 6 mpg.
