« on: December 07, 2013 - 07:53:30 PM »
Team,
I have a 73 Cuda, made Dec 72, the fender tag says TX9, from what I can tell its called Formal Black. I have also seen it called Diamond Black.
So, is Formal Black a metalic paint???

Would that be the same black as the 74 Challenger?

My 74 is the same colour and it's just plain old alkyd enamel black. If you're not a chalk-mark guy, you could easily make it metallic black if you wanted to and; don't cheap out over clear coat; you'll come to regret it.

Thanks Guys,
someone has already flashed it with a metallic black that has crazed etc, I'll be having it re sprayed next year back to original black.

If it needs to be said, make sure you strip the paint before you re-spray it. You can use chemical stripper, but also use 2" masking tape to keep it away from all seams.
