WIW Daytona clone
« on: December 08, 2013 - 08:50:09 AM »
Found this a couple years back sitting broke down on the side of the road. The owner was quite a "character" Lets just say the 60's-70's were good to him. I gave him a bunch of spare parts to try It's and help him get it going but no luck so far. I had a customer that lived by this guy so I would stop in now and then.  He was getting pretty frustrated with it...
I always admired it and wondered what it would be worth? It looks better in pictures than it really is. He hand made the nose. The wing is a repop. Glass I think? It's a 70 Charger. The dash and wiring is so screwed with it all needs to be replaced. He said he tried to put a dash from a later charger in it? Why IDK? The floors look to be a mess too lots of patches etc... no motor or transmission . I'm thinking 2-3K?  :dunno: It's so far gone/past a # matching thing as a Charger and I'm not really into that sort of a thing. If I got it I think I would get a repop nose and new fenders and make a Joe Dirt hotrod out of it and drive people crazy!
He is quite attached to it. I understand that , he has a lot of work/years into it, but taking emotions out of it what's it worth? I could see someone else parting it out and scraping the rest but I'd like to make it live again?

If you're not into Chargers, and you can get it cheap enough, I say go with "Joe DEEARTAY".  The way it is now, you'll just have people picking the car apart for not being "correct" (unless you like that sort of thing, like me! :ylsuper:)  It looks like it would be a royal pain to bring back to original.  With a movie car, you have more latitude to get it running on the cheap, and it will get much attention and thumbs up at the shows.  How many 68 and 70 General Lees have we all seen, we know they are wrong, and people are still getting their picture taken with them?
Yes I own a 1972 Dodge Challenger Convertible T/A S/E with a 440 Six Pak. Can it get any more wrong?

If body is solid and minimal rust, $5k max.

You said no motor, but it looks like there is one?

Looks like it might be an interesting project, and even if you just did it on a real small budget, still be a fun car to cruise around in.

Does he have the real grill for it somewhere in there?  It's probably worth 500-1k if it's not busted up.  Dash will probably run you another grand if you want it to look stock and if the tac is bad (pretty likely).  How's the interior?  That's another expensive item.

As a shell with good glass, driver interior, grill, no rust/minor rust probably like 5-8K.  Decent project/driver second gens are hard to find.  You either get rot boxes or super restored cars.  If you do discover you'll have to replace a whole bunch of panels due to bondo/rust than more like 3-5k.

What rear does it have? 8.75?  Are you planning on building it way up and putting in a dana or just keeping the 8.75?

I think everyones in the ballpark @ $2-5k tops depending on parts included. Does it still have the factory vin tag?

No, I doubt he has a stock grill, the interior is trashed. It has a 8 3/4 rear end. I'm thinking 2500-3K tops. IDK about the vin tag, fender tags? Never looked. I have no idea if he is ready to sell yet or not just curious if my valuation is close. I doubt he ever will finish it or get it on the road. Hard to put a price on sentiment....  He also has a 70 Challenger that is rumored to be in good shape too? He asked me if I was interested in buying it but I said no I already have one.  I've never seen it. He is known as a bit of a Mopar hoarder?  I'll try and stop by this week and see if he is still there ( and the car (s) ?)

I would say 3K.
I really like wings.

The front nose looks like a decent job..? for what it is.

Buy it and drive it!

Funny but I just ran into him again and gave him some more parts to try and help him out. . He has a 70 Challenger and wants 5K for it. Says it has a 4 speed pistol grip still in it with a non running 440. Might be going to look at it tomorrow. Also has a 74 Cuda parts car he said? I still like the charger /Daytona clone thing he has going on!  :grinyes: Seem like a nice guy just down on his luck? :dunno:
