column mounted sun tach picture wanted

I have a standard gauge cluster.  I sent my gauges out and had them rebuilt at redline.  I installed an oil pressure gauge in the clock spot.  I was going to put a tach in there, but I think I would like the oil pressure better.  Now I am planning on just putting a Sunpro Super II tach on my column in the 3 3/8 dia size.  It will keep all my gauges up on the dash so I don't have to look down.  I figure it may cover a bit of the fuel and temp gauge, but I should be able to see what I need to if I keep the tach on the smaller size.  The sun tach is retro looking, and cheap.  Am I getting what I am paying for?  Or should I spend a little more and get an Autometer gauge that doesn't have the retro look?  Are any of you guys running this, and if so, can you post a picture?  Let me know what will work best.  Thanks for the opinions.    J

Really?  Nobody has a sun tach?  How about any column mounted tach?  Got any recommendations?  Any pictures of anything?

No photo, but use to have one 40 yrs ago on my 70 Superbee.  The clamp used was a large hose clamp type of device that can go around the column.  Mine was at about he 11 o clock position.

Thanks tman.  Im glad somebody here has done this.  I am surprised at the 11 o'clock position.  I was planning on 1 o'clock.  I guess I have to see what looks good and works better.  It won't be hard to change if I don't like it. 

     I think I will spend some cash on a sun tach soon.  I am working on my electrical systems now and will have to redo some of my harnesses, so I might as well run the wires and tape them all up together and keep it clean but stock looking under the hood.  I hope I don't melt it down and start it on fire!!!

I really liked the Sun Tach back in those days.  It would look good for nostalgic appearance.

Used a sun tach for 40 years on my E-bodys. I would mount it to the light bar. The bracket that comes with the tach has a tab that the large clamp holds to the steering column, just flatten it a little put a hole in it and use one of the screws that holds the light bar in. I like it on the right side of the column.

 Here's a picture from back in the day. It had a large hose clamp with a neoprene pad between the column and base. Since then the original was rebuilt and the Sun tack was eventually removed.

Great info guys.  I took my chances yesterday and bought the Actron Sunpro Super Tach II.  I got the medium sized one 3 3/8 in diameter.  I think the 5 inch would be too big and block the view of my standard gauges, and I didn't want the mini one either.  Im heading out to unwrap my engine harness and redo the alternator wire, and finish my battery cables that are run from the trunk.  Still have to wire in the A/C and power up the computer to the trans.  Adding the tach wiring to this should be done now too.  Maybe I can get the car running before February.  Thanks for the photo.
