CHANGING 1970 CUDA FENDERS AND GRILLE TO 1971
« on: December 09, 2013 - 08:35:58 PM »
Hi guys; Is it possible to convert 70 cuda fenders to 71? I saw the 4 headlight brackets in the link below with hardware to attach. I thought the headlight buckets were spot welded in from the factory. Can anyone shed some light on this swap? And also, who are the guys stamping the gill holes in the fenders?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/151066136625?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I also wanted to find out if the hardware kit for 1971 cuda grille is enough along with the repro grille to install in the car or are there other BRACKETS not offered with the repro or hardware kit,but necessary to mount the 71 grille if they are missing from the car the grille is going into.

Thanks,Dave

Those brackets shown in your picture will not bolt into a 70 fender without changing the spot welded headlight buckets as you mentioned. Everything you need for the conversion is available through PG Classic's.

You will also need a 1971 Header panel, 70 will not work at all. 72-74 will work but you will not be able to use the correct mounting fasteners in the later header panel because of a slight hole location change.

There are guys that stamp the fenders they charge $350-400 a pair PLUS SHIPPING if you're not close. After you do that combined with buying the new head light buckets that Alan mentioned. You are almost better off buying a pair of new 71 Fenders. With the available discounts you can get them for like $1000 a pair. As Alan said you will also need the header panel and the mount plates in the ebay link above. Front valance, insert, valance lights, grille.....The 70 to 71 conversion is about the most expensive thing you can do.

Hey guys; Yeah,i'm starting to see that it's probably better to just buy the AMD fenders.

One question i wanted to address again that i'm not sure about. When installing the new 71 grille, are there any of the original mounting brackets required that are not included in the new repro kit or the hardware mounting kit? Someone told me awhile back that there were certain brackets on an original grille structure setup that are not included with the new kits. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Thanks,Dave

There are brackets that attach to the fender just below the outside headlight. You will need these 2 brackets for sure. I think the rest of the hardware will be included in a decent hardware installation kit. I will try and find a picture of the brackets I don't think they come with the fenders.

Are these the brackets in this link below. I am wondering why they wouldnt give you all the brackets and hardware you need to install the new grille.

...And if those brackets are not included with either the fenders or the grille, then where do you get them? Are they sold in a separate kit?  Thanks,Dave

Most people installing a new grill are doing so in a 71 car, not coverting another year.
Those brackets are available through PG Classics or AMD as pictured.

Dave at Roseville Moparts can get you everything you need. :2cents:

Thanks for the info guys. Does anyone have a diagram or know where to find one detailing the location of the 71 grilles mounting points? Thanks,Dave

NO...Those are hardware kits. They simply supply the correct nuts and bolts to attach the grill, no brackets included. Notice also that the 70 kit is very different then the 71 kit.

If you call Roseville and tell them what you're doing, they generally know what comes with what kit and what extra bits and pieces you're going to need. I changed a 72 into a 71 with shaker and they knew everything I was going to need.
1972 Cuda 340 4 barrel 4 speed that looks like a 71
2006 Dodge Charger R/T Daytona
2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel 4X4
2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible (Kidmobile)
1972 Dodge Charger 318 auto
1970 Challenger 440/727 auto
1973 Plymouth Duster 340/auto (Making it Panther Pink for the wife)
2006 Honda Civic Hybrid (It doesn't save gas, it just diverts it to the Cuda/Challenger)
In desperate need of more property for my growing Mopar family

Are these the pieces that come with the headlight mount brackets in the link below? If not does anyone have pics of these brackets?  Thanks,Dave

Here is an assembly diagram. There is a small triangular bracket used two times.
