Shackles hitting rear valance
« on: December 09, 2013 - 09:41:36 PM »
My car has what I'm assuming are aftermarket shackles. They hit the rear valance, the previous owner cut the valance to accommodate the shackles. Now I'm in the market for a new valance because it's hacked up, what are my options?

Get new correct shackles and bushings
A new rear valence
Maybe re-arch leaf springs or better yet, get new one's.

Someone else was having a similar issue, turned out he had b-body leaf springs

I changed the shackles in my b-body when I rearched and added a leaf to my leaf springs. Turns out ones from a jeep wrangler fit and are actually a little shorter than what I had. Something to look into if you can't find shackles.
Cuda is gone :(

Can you guys point me in the direction of the correct shackles that I need to get? Is it possible I need to replace the front hangers instead or also?

Thanks guys. Do I measure from eye to eye to determine length of my leafs? Can someone post a picture of what the front and rear shackles/hangers should look like so I can compare to what I have?

I bought shackles from mega parts. They are an 1" to long. I called them and they told me they were correct. NOT. I called Mancine racing and they have the correct ones.

Ok crawled under and took a look and some measurements. Leafs look to be the right size but rear shackles are funky. Look too long and angle outwards about 2". Look to be the culprit, what are these meant for?

If I install the correct shackles from the Mancini link below, my problem should be fixed right? Also, is it safe to assume the rear will be lifted slightly due to a shorter distance between the front hanger and rear shackle, creating a larger bow in the springs?

No, the shackles will not bow the leaf springs.

However, shorter shackles shouldn't hit the valance either. I used 1" offset shackles with a b-body rear with no issues. That was on my cuda. Used stock shackles on the challenger due to 1" extra wheelhouse space.

So if I go with stock shackles that come straight down rather then the angled ones currently on my car, I will need to buy shorter leafs as well?

Those shackles in your picture are about twice the length of stock ones. If you replace the shackles with the correct ones they will no longer hit the valance.
I estimate your car will sit about 2" - 3" lower in the rear end with the new shackles in place. :2cents:
