AAR Idle solenoid

Ok wise ones.
Apparently as Chryco pointed out in my wiring harness question my AAR (T/A) motor should have an idle solenoid which apparently mounted on a bracket which is attached to the rear mounting bolts of one of the carbs. Not there, no bracket, no nuthin.
I found adjusting instructions in my shop manual, but can't figure out what it's function is, why my car seems to run fine without it, AND if I am not doing a concourse resto (my car is and will always be a driver as long as I own it.) do I need it?
Does the fact that it was converted to Electronic Ignition possibly have anything to do with it. :clueless:
By the way the wiring schematics in the Chrysler shop manuals were designed for younger eyes then mine.
Took me 3 tries to follow a wire in the diagram. I might copy them and blow them up to poster size.

I have it on mine (see picture) and yes, it is attached to a bracket that bolts to the rear 2 carb studs on the front carb.  It is there to crack the throttle plates open slightly under certain conditions.  I have mine backed off and runs fine.

It allows the engine to idle by keeping the throttle slightly open like normal then when you shut down it closes the throttle plate completely to prevent run on. Some people simply adjust the idle up manually but end up with run on on a hot day. These things are a good idea and I am about to fit one even though my car is far from stock.

It is just an anti run on device , it closes with the key off & shut the throttle fully , it is adjusted to maintain idle speed with the key on , ...... It runs fine without it why bother buying one as they are not cheap unless you want it to look 100% original

Thanks for the feedback guys, I now have a good understanding of the purpose of the part.
And by the way Alan, not only do I sometimes answer my own questions without knowing it, but I also talk to the voices in my head and sometimes they answer as well!

I have a big block with a 6bbl.  What color wire goes to the idle solenoid?  Is it a blue wire by chance?  I have the 6bbl engine wire harness, but haven't bought the solenoid yet.  I guess I am waiting to see if I need it or not once I get the car running.

Learn something new today,never had that hooked up on my 440-6pak for 15 years and never had a problem with it.
