Trunk lid knowledge needed
« on: December 11, 2013 - 04:44:20 PM »
Is this an original trunk lid or is this a repro? Are these holes for a luggage rack? I didnt think the spoilers mounted quite this way.

That looks like an original lid.  The two larger square slots are for the go-wing or gull wing mountimg, depending on year.

If you're asking about the 4 identical rectangle holes they are for the ducktail spoiler (AAR or T/A).

I was really referring to the square holes on the left and right that have the small hole on each side. Thats good to know about the AAR & T/A ducktail spoiler using the small holes on the edge though.

So if a trunk has them there was a wing installed at one time, since all trunks dont have the holes?

The brackets are used to brace the spoiler to the inner structure and have nearly zero stress on the outer skin.

Ok, have decided to finally install a '70 go wing from First Place. Problem is, the measurements that they included put the wing being farther back than the '71 style holes in the inner lid will allow, without cutting. Order some '71 inner brackets,  or do so fab work and use the '70 style brackets? What you you do? :feedback:

That trunk lid is a 71 lid. 1970 lids are different and the locations of the wings are different. Your 70 wing in a 71 location will look odd :2cents: I would modify the lid to get the correct 1970 brackets and location :2cents:
