tti exhaust and changing the reverse rod linkage

I am currently installing my tti exhaust system on my 73 challenger. In the instructions it says that i will have to use a reverse rod linkage from a 70-72 challenger to fit with the H or X system. Anyone run into this problem, is it a simple fix or will i have to get a reverse rod? Linkage kits are $115 on up. Didn't know this tti system was going to get so expensive.   :clueless:

Originally the shift linkage attaches on the bottom side of the pivot and trans lever.  Can you mount the linkage to the top side?  I know some cars require that mod.

I haven't tried yet. i thought i would get the exhaust hung and then attach the rods. Hopefully it is as simple as that.

Sure...Then reverse will be "over and down"... :scared:

Which reverse rod do you have currently in your car ?

first is a 72-74 ...."J" hook

second is a 70-71....."L" hook (sorta)

It's clear to see why it would make a difference in exhaust clearence :2cents:

What?

Some cars require the linkage to be flipped and installed on the top of the pivot/lever.  There is a diagram in the TTI instructions.

What?

Some cars require the linkage to be flipped and installed on the top of the pivot/lever.  There is a diagram in the TTI instructions.

Maybe we're not talking about the same thing.

Think about it...The pivot in the tranny where the lever bolts on with a nut is your center point. Your rod is connected over top of the center point, therefore when you push the shifter forward, you're pulling the top of the lever towards the rear of the car to engage reverse.

If you flip the lever and now mount the rod below the center point...your forward motion of the shifter will still pull the lever towards the rear of the car but because you're below the center pivot point you're moving the inside of the transmission the opposite direction.

I am running TTI on my car, 440 2 speed and I had to get the 70/71 E/B Body rod from Brewers, you can get the rod separately.  The other rod hits the pipe.  TTI as an footnote about it on their website.
Yes TTI can be expensive, but they are worth it in the long run.

I was looking on thier site to see if I can find it, but yes they sale it separatly, that is how I got mine. Call them or email them, they are great at customer service.  I will look through my records to see if I can get you a part numbers.

I made my 73 rod look like a 70/71 no big deal just need a welder and hacksaw. Had to do the same with my Ppasson 5 spd setup as well. It came with a reverse rod like a 73.
