Cuda vs. Challenger
« on: April 07, 2005 - 10:50:23 PM »
Hey guys,

I just have a quick question. Is a base cuda' more rare than a base challenger? And what is the differecence between a cuda and a barrauda, talking about post 1970 models. Are they basically the same car? Thanks alot.

barracuda was the grocery getter plain jane and 'Cuda represented the perforance side of things as for the cuda/challenger thing I think the challenger out sold the cuda about 2 to 1 . as for being basically the same car yes and no its more like if you had a sister you wouldnt the same butyou would be in the same family so  in some ways you would be

Wow!! now theres a few questions that have to have a very verbose answer. Without getting into pages of typing. Barracuda is the model of Plymouth's E body platform. The Gran Coupe is the upscale more luxury oriented option. 'cuda is the performance version. I will not get into all the differences here at this time, but beyond basic shell and sheetmetal (and there are changes there too) there is not a lot in common.
Plymouth was always the lower rung on the ladder to Dodge. The Plymouths usually sat on a one inch shorter wheelbase and were supposed to fill the slot under Dodge. However, for the performance models, the shorter wheelbase and less frills of the Plymouth casued them to be regarded as the more performance oriented of the two. Challenger was aimed at the sport Thunderbird set, while 'cuda was Chrysler's late effort to get into the then fading pony car (long hood/short deck) market. A hemi 'cuda is generally regarded as the epitome of Chrysler's performance, outside of the mainly track aimed Max-Wedges and the late 60s Super Stockers.

Not at all justice to your questions, but a short answer for now.

Ineluctably speaking gents, me thinks the “vs” here refers to the proper indulgent of sed Plymouth and Dodge products, underlining the deferens of the before mention “base models”
Charging us with the question “is there a difference”.
Hence we atomistic the visual instead of the proper… something or other.

Having said that, I don't want this to turn into a flame war. I think deep down we would all take either in our garage. If you want to have some fun, how about we debate on which car is the biggest Babe magnet. The Dodge Omni, or the Chevy Chevette???  :dontknow:

It's really a redundant question, except here, because the X'ers don't know the difference anyhow, and a lot of "fringe" Mopar owners know very little differences, it's a matter of choice and if I had mine, I'd have one of each, thank you! The Cuda is more sought after due in part because it made fewer cars than the Challenger. And the mistique in recent years of the Hemi Cuda has given the world the biased impression that it is the car to own, granted, it may be, but unless you have and are willing to spend more money than some people will make in their lifetime, you won't have one either. It's a question with no difinitive answer in my opinion, but I'm sure there are those even here that will disagree with this. I like e-bodies (both Cuda and Challenger)........ but I love and worship second generation Chargers, my ultimate car would be the 1968 Hemi Charger R/T, but I know it will only be a dream, sort of like that hot red head I dated in high school, except she was real and ................well, it dosent matter anyhow, now does it?,lol.
