Resto Tips? 70-71 Textured Rear Window Trim
« on: December 16, 2013 - 08:56:44 PM »
Any tips on how to restore this?  Should I use the organosol paint?  I know it is rarely seen, but I'd like for the finish to have longevity.

I just did a set for my AAR (with rear window louvers). I used paint stripper as much as I could, then cleaned them pretty darn good with a brass wire wheel, then just spray painted them with a satin black rust paint.

I think organisol will lose the detail in the trim :2cents:

Well, I could see how the organosol could fuzzy up the grain impressions.  Single or not, I made the cabinets. Lol

Wouldn't powder coating be the way to go on these?

Powder is pretty thick compared to spray application. I know powder would be much more durable. I'm not sure.

Organasil is too thick, a satin black enamel would be the way to go to comply to an original look, but powder coat would work also and it would be that little bit more durable, but the spray satin enamel would be good enough. :2thumbs:

Hey Daniel, I just checked my NOS pieces i have of these trims buddy. They are in a cloth kind of paper pouch and are numbered with correct Mopar packaging, they look to be a bit more toward the flat side of Black and not so shinny as what satin would be, maybe do a satin black in your spray gun and add some more flattening base to it to dull it down some more. I have camera issues right now, but i can get a picture up in the next couple of days, but the colour would be hard to portray over the internet anyway.

I used TREMCLAD Flat Black on mine. It's not the "flatest" black I've seen, it's more of a satin when dry.....But like mentioned above, it's hard to convey in pictures....I think it looks awesome :2thumbs:
Whatever you put on it, you want something that won't hide the details of the texture :2cents:
