Welcome to cc.com Thad!  You are absolutly right about being the same.  Most of us here like other brands of muscle cars too!  Yeah I remember when burpin first joined . . . he has always talked in the third person.  I still think it's pretty funny!!  Looks like you have a pretty large site for the chevelle with alot of members!!  Do you have a pic of you car you can share!  That is the one thing here . . . we love pics!   :thumbs:

This is my 68 SS-396.
Its gone a best so far of a 13.53 @ 106 mph.
My 60' times are pathetic in the 2.3 range.
Something between fear of breaking my antique, and lack of talent.
It's a 4 speed so technique would mean a lot.
This year I'm going to try leaving the line harder, but it is a street car thats driven to work, and to the track.

Last year my bud Ryan and I went to the Chrysler Classic at Pittsburg Raceway Park (a little more than an hour from home).

Anyway, we didn't know anybody, but everybody was super nice.

I nearly fell in love with a blue 69 440 6 pack road runner.
That thing was bare bones and mean.
4 speed, black lift off hood, black steel rims.
Owner was very cool we talked about all kinds of car for an hour.

I intend to attend this year too. A good time was had.

Hey Thad, welcome to the site, I have to admit, I tease as much as anyone when it comes to chebbys and fards but not to hurt anyone or run down anyone's car. I'm sure the same happens with the other brands too. As you see on this site, we have fun joking and kidding around but the whole truth of the matter is no one would ever want to hurt anyones feelings or trash their car unless they were really asking for it. Me? I would like to have  hmmm, well, here goes, I'd sure like to have  67 SS, love the lines and the hood. But don't tell anyone I said that, especially here!

You hit the nail on the head when you said many of us are born into this like our religions. I wasn't really born into it but my dad did plant the seed back in 1968, when I was in high school he bought a new Roadrunner. Man, did he ever go through the tires! LOL
Anyway, you sound like one of the many muscle car enthusiests who appreciates others passions as well. Have fun looking through here and come visit often! PS, that's a nice looking 68 you have there!

Welcome to the site thad.  That is one sweet car!  I really like the red and black color combo. 

I think that plum6pack explained it well.  Pretty much everyone here likes to joke around and poke fun everyone.  We don't mean any harm.  When it comes down to it we are all just muscle car people who like to laugh a little.  In particular we may like mopars, but I bet that most of us wouldn't pass up the chance to own a HiPo GM or Ford.

Stick around a while, this is a great site.

I was kinda skeered, I might not get such a warm reception.  :beer:

I think one of the coolest things about mopar, is that they weren't scared to swing for the fences.
While GM had a ban on engines over 400 c.i. in intermediates, mopar said screw that and put Hemis into Darts, and Barracudas.
Mopar put multiple carbs on the option list for nearly everything, GM only the early GTOs and the Corvette.

GM never got as wild with the colors, strips, or characters either.

Mopar has made some truly mean looking musclecars.

But damn, are parts for your cars expensive compared to ours.
Guess that part of the cost of having something different.

Ryan said they made about 20,000 Chragers in 1969. Heck they made 55,000 SS Chevelles in 68, and probably have a million Chevelles total in 1968.

Its almost to the point, that unless you've already got a Mopar, they cost too much to get.  :cry:

and maybe that fella with the 69 GTX two towns over,
will take pity on me, and sell me the the car after all.  :nopity:

Guy has got a barn with 3 Corvettes, and a 69 GTX.
Of course none of them are for sale.
The guy is friendly enough, but he'll probably pass them on to his son anyway.
I can't complain but sometimes I still do.

Thanks Thad for the visit and logical outlook to Muscle cars in general, it is appreciated. My first new car was a 67 Chevele, I was still young and my dad co-signed and for him it HAD to be a GM product. But Mopars were my passion, I guess a ride in a friends GTX did that for me,lol. Many of us have other brands of cars but for old street Muscle it truly is a Mopar or no car for me, like I said I grew up in a GM household but went to the "dark side" of Mopar Madness, and yes they are quite expensive, but some of us would sell our souls for that privilidge. So let your site members know we have open minds even though it may be ever so slightly opened,lol. Thanks again  :beer:

To get back to the orginal purpose you asked for help in the first place Burpin, send me an e-mail and I will answer any question you have in regards to the brake conversion. There are a lot of options on this. You can do anything from an aftermarket kit that uses stock replacement parts to a tall spindle conversion to searching in around in the bone yard for donor cars. You can even opt for an aftermarket kit from a manufacturer such as Baer. The choices are almost limitless. Just e-mail me and I'll tell you what I know.

 I've been rather preoccupied lately and missed all the threads in which you requested help on the disc conversion. I've been going through a rather abrupt change in careers at the moment, thanks to Delta Air Lines' decision to close down the DFW maintenance base where I was formerly employed as an aircraft maintenance technician. But life goes on, and working on my Chevelle and helping my wife's brother with his Cuda and his upcoming restoration on a 74 Duster does help take my mind off my problems.

The Chevelle site has had a lot of problems with internet trolls who do nothing but stir the pot on message boards but contribute absolutely nothing to the content. Couple that with the fact that many of us are on the conservative side and it makes for some problems when a user posts in the style Burpin chooses to use. I can see that Burpin is legitimate, but like I stated previously, we tend to be a little more conservative at Chevelles.com and right or wrong, a poster using Burpin's style is viewed somewhat suspiciously given our past problems with trolls.

Trolls, huh?  I guess we've been pretty lucky here then...I can only remember one of them.  Randy and Thad, you guys are a real class act.  It sounds like our two boards are very similar in that they both want to protect the "family" and keep folks out who are only posting to stir things up.  We can vouch for Burpin...he talks funny, but he's a great guy! 

You know if you guys ever need mopar help....you got it!

I am another "Chevelle" guy, and just wanted to say hello...

Sorry about Burpin's first impression...  I agree with the other "Chevelle" guys here.  A few people over there are pretty conservative and "mature", and that coupled with the "trolls" we were talking about, lead them to make a rash judgement (I can only assume thats what they were doing) about Burpin'...

Many of the more knowledgible guys over there are great, but when asked a technical question, they are looking for someone that sounds serious (and the 3rd person threw them, I know it did to me).  It sounded like a kid just trying to stir something up...

Anyway,  Nice sight...

Despite being a "Chevelle" owner, I too like many other Musclecars...  The reason I don't own a Dodge (or Plymouth) is mainly financial...

Growing up, one of my best friends was a "Dodge" man...  In high school (20 year reunion coming up) he purchased and restored a '69 Charger R/T (440 magnum, 4-speed, Dana 3.54, Charger Red, tan interior, No console).  Nice car.  Driven it a few times, and even made it into some Mopar magazine in the late 80's...  He later bought a '71 (?) Demon 340/4-speed thats was alot of fun.  He also bought a 69 Dart GTS convertible (real GTS, 340, auto)...  I have helped him work on his cars, and I like the way they look and perform as well...  My friend kept the Charger but got rid of the others (his brother bought the Demon from him)...

High on my list of "wanted" cars are several Dodge cars...  I love the E-bodies, but too pricey...  Looking at 67-69 Cuda's, 69 Charger (thinking about a "500" clone, but not sure if the "Coronet" grill addaptation is really that straight forward... Rear glass and window plug from one of those Daytona suppliers...), and my favorite is the 68 and 69 Super Bee...

Welcome Quik66!!  Too bad about the trolls . . we've been pretty lucky here.  Spoiled alittle maybe.  Well since I've visited alot of other sites, I've come to the conclusion that  . . . DAMMN there's alot of DRAMA!!  Your site looks great like I stated earlier . . . wow they made a sh!t load of Chevelle's!!  HAng out if ya like . . great time here with us muscle car people.

Wow, this friendly rival brand interaction has been pretty friggin' cool! :beer:

Chalk up another fan of musclecars in general. :wave:  When I was younger & had more time to devote to learning about musclecars, I knew quite a lot about pretty much all musclecars...then I decided to try & concentrate mainly on Mopars & Ferds because that's what I owned.
Now I've probably forgotten 50% of what I learned about GM through the years, but I still know more than some people. ;D

If given the means, I'd like to be like Otis Chandler(?) & have one of everything! :laughing:



Oh & my favorite Chevelle would be a 70...with an LS6 drivetrain, please.

Welcome guys!Like I said over on your site I appreciate all muscle cars and rods.My first car was a `68 Chevelle SS 396 4 spd car but unfortunatly the engine and trans were yanked and replaced with a 307 powerglide just before I bought it.Probably a good thing as I got into enough trouble with the lousy 307 and couldn`t have afforded the gas for the big block anyway.My father had a `69 Chevy station wagon with the 396 and of course I wanted to yank the engine for my Chevelle.Even that huge,heavy wagon did Ok once it got rolling.Of course in my dream stable of cars most would be Mopars but I would love to get another `68 SS and maybe a `69 or `70 Mach 1 for a litle variety.

I can assure you that Burpin is not a rabble-rouser/troll in any way, shape, or form. However, if he starts posting about 71 LS6 Chevelles that he found in the woods (or 72 Hemicudas), feel free to draw your own conclusions. (Just kidding, Burpin ;D).
