Opinions and ideas needed on color choice and wheels...
« on: December 18, 2013 - 01:04:28 PM »
Looking for color and wheel opinions on my current project. It's a 71 Challenger Convertible. 6.4 Hemi with a NAG1 Trans, TTi Headers and 3" Exhaust. Also has street lynx rear suspension and Alterktion front, Wilwood brakes all around with red calipers and drilled/slotted rotors.  The car is going to be built with White Interior for sure. Also Rubber Bumpers and a 71 Wing. Wheels will be something aftermarket like Foose Knuckle or Nitrous in 18X8 Front 18 x9-10 rear or maybe 20X10 (Not sure what will fit yet). Going with a regular R/T hood, and grille and taillights will be blacked out like a 71 R/T.
Now . Leaning towards Sassy grass green with Black top and white or black stripes (Modified 71 R/T stripes). Convertible top in Black because I will be getting the canvas/cloth type top. I would be afraid of white cloth top. Boot will also be white. Any suggestions.  The car was originally B-5 Blue with blue interior and white top. I don't think the rubber bumpers would look good in blue. but that's also a option.
Thanks , Keith

I'd go B-5 blue with the White interior. Not sure about the rubber bumpers in Blue though.

I would do white exterior and white interior....Would want a white top too, but fully agree about the white canvas, so stick with a black top but keep it down all the time. :bigshades:

I think the best choice for wheel would be the YearOne 17'' Magnums or Rallies :2cents:

I like the idea of the B5 Blue interior also, and i think the Blue bumpers would really work well, Black out the top of the front bar to match the grille like the Challenger Elastameric bumpers were done anyway. But then again if you are going Green, you have picked the correct Green to go in Go Green in my opinion  The whole build sounds like it is thought out really well, and the colour is the hardest decision you are going to make, even a B7 Dark Blue Metallic would look stunning in that combo too, i think even a WHite cloth roof would work with the B7 Blue instead of the Black, and have you thought about doing a two tone interior ? You can use everything you have that is White already, But you could do the dash, carpet, console, inner windshield trims in a B5 to match the B5 exterior or with a B7 exterior, and even a B7 interior with the white if you went with a B7 exterior. Man it is going to be a hard dicision, but if it were me, i would put an opposing colour with the white interior to have a two tone interior, it would look awesome that way. :clapping: :2thumbs:

I'd vote for black exterior to pay homage to the first Hemi convertible ever  :burnout:

I'd say plum crazy!  Can never have too much of that!  But sassy green is good too. Any of the high impact pure 60s 70s colors that you'll never see on a modern car is good

Lots of good ideas here...thanks.
Can't do black. Black cars are beautiful, but...hot, hard to keep clean, undercarriage painted and engine compartment in black kinda blend in.

Problem with B5 Blue is that the bumpers don't really look right since they are rubber. Also the B5 doesn't stand out like a high impact color would. Looks more like a everyday driver sort of ? :clueless: B7 , same story and I never really liked it that much.

I'm probably leaning towards the Sassy Grass. Although Curios Yellow and Panther pink are something to consider. There is already a Curious yellow 71 Hemi cuda clone in the local gang and another 71 challenger R/T that is under construction. A 70 six pack challenger Plum Crazy in the bunch and a 71 Challenger pace car conv Orange (ShelbyDogg).

To be different, it's sassy grass or panther pink. Just don't know if I can love a pink car, although it's a awesome color.

What about the wheel choices??? The YearOne 17'' Magnums or Rallies are not at all apealing to me. I want more wheel, at least 18"s and I like shiny. The Billet specialties SLC42 has recently caught my eye.
Thanks , Keith

Have you put any consideration in to Butterscotch ? that would work with rubber bumpers too, and with the white.
As for the wheels, that is a tough one, all those wheels you said would fit in your concept well, a real tuffy. :clueless:

I would at least stick with a 1971 Colour ...that would rule out pink....

Think FJ6 Green Go is the answer with white interior and white stripes.

Yes I agree definately no Pink. I like FJ6 and white a lot I just said blue because it was the original color. I like that's really nice as well.
