1970 Barracuda
« on: December 18, 2013 - 08:51:43 PM »
I have been a member of this site for a few months. I have had conversations with people I have never met and some I never will meet. I have enjoyed the sharing of a common hobby and have gleaned a lot of info from several of you. I thank you all for that.
Although my 1970 Barracuda is 95% done I thought it might be fun to go back and show the various stages of my work and give some background on what I have.
I bought my car when I was 17 years old (30 years ago) in Pendleton Indiana for $1100.00. It had been a 6 cylinder column shift car new, but had a 360SB, 727, 83/4 in it when I purchased it. It was bright orange and ran well. I drove it all through my senior year. I blew the engine doing well over 100mph (see post, how fast have you driven) I thought it would be a perfect time to do a complete rebuild.
We never had a pot to **** in, so I spent a lot of time lying in the gravel, dirt, mud, under plastic tarps and snow to get work done over the years. I completely disassembled the car and took it down to bare metal from front to rear, top to bottom. Replaced both rear frame rails, the complete trunk, front shock towers and complete quarters.  I opted to go with a mild 440, 727 and the 8 ¾ for the long haul. I have completed all work except the exterior paint on this car myself. I even sprayed the engine compartment and Jammed it which turned out great. It is a totally new car from top to bottom. I did build it to drive so it is new and clean but not one to put mirrors under. I have owned 2 Barracudas, 1 Cuda and 1 Challenger over the years but always chose to sink the real money in the 70. I will post pictures every now and again as I get the time just so you all can see the various stages of work. I do not have a lot, in fact I have no pictures from the metal working stage or bare metal but I hope you still enjoy.

I believe it was the original color, I never found evidence of any other colors when stripping it down, so unless it was stripped before I bought it, which I doubt cuz the car was only 13 years old when I purchased it. The fender tag was lost in one of my many moves. I might have a picture of it when I bought it somewhere. As a matter of fact I got a very hostile look from my better half last night as we went to bed cuz I had all our old pictures drug out trying to find any I don't have digitally, but I will keep looking.  The good news is I think I have finally settled in with a permanent address and a place to put all my many projects. We do have many projects going on right now. A superbird in the back corner that had to have an incredible amount of work done to it. (complete roof section, firewall, and total rear section). I think most people would have just junked it. A Cobra is being built by a friend of mine in the shop, which is an outstanding project that you would have to see to believe. I can tell you this I never get bored.

After the white we applied 3 coats Fire orange. This is an International color that was used on some 1975 International Scouts. The rear tail panel and hood scoops are a flat black. Then a few coats of clear to protect the money. Obviously I already have the car home and have the front end out ready for the engine to be mounted.

Looks like it's coming along nicely. I'm not a fan of the black hood scoops but the nice thing about "building it you way" is there are no rules

I would have moved the hood pin hole locations to the factory locations though... :2cents: :)

A few pics of various things. The front K-member before, Every part and piece on the front end will be replaced with brand new, since this is a driver I blacked in the inner fender wells. All new brake lines from in-line tube. New master cylinder and booster from local Napa store.
