Rust inside hood, what are my options?
« on: December 22, 2013 - 07:05:09 PM »
Every time I close my hood rust shavings disperse everywhere in my engine bay. Inside of hood must be rusty, what are my options for cleaning this out? I'm assuming have to cut it open but figured I'd ask in hope of a different plan of attack.

You can take the hood off and use a rust convert/primer product, it is a wet product that you could pour in to the areas and with the help of anonother person you could work the liquid around by alternating the fluid run with position, then repeat the same process with the hood turn over in the upright correct way. This will stop it flaking off for you, give it at least a weak to dry, and then follow up the proceedure with a matching colour to what your paint is, this should seal it all up and give you hasle free driving for a few years. :2thumbs:

This stuff works great, Ace HW carries it.
A quart, about $20 would be enough to do 2 hoods.  It's the same consistency as water, will get to all the crevices.

I had my hood dipped and e-coated.  Bad part is they bake it first, and that removes the dabs of caulk between the inner and outer panels, but mine was so rusty, it was probably worth it.  Unfortunately, I think they also placed other panels on top of the hood and it took quite a bit to get it straight again.

I went this route with my deck lid, If i wasn't at work I could post pictures....or you can visit my photo bucket account, 67vertman.  I covered taped all the holes closed and poured it in, you can't do that on a hood of course, and turned it around to get all the areas.
