West Coast & central Trip to Carlisle 2014

First time we organized the club meet at Carlisle . . . We had caravans from every direction!  It was a lot of fun all riding out together!

Here's some math to calculate:

How much would it cost in gas to travel from Oakland CA. to Carlisle PA?

You would be averaging 12 MPG on the freeway.
Estimating a stop every 12 hours to a hotel with an average cost of 65 dollars a day to stay at.
Add food at 25 dollars a day and there's 2 people going

What would be the itemized total?

I myself like to "caravan" it out when I could get the people.
After all, it helps to have a group driving out, in case you, I don't know, say run out of gas on the turnpike.
That sucks.. Ask me how I know

Looks familiar!.... but without the gas can.... and the lights flashing!

Ummm don't feel bad . . . That happened to me as well.  Turnpike shut down one of the plazas with no signs yet and I got there for gas and it was closed . . . Next area 52 miles.   I was probably within 2 miles before coming to a stop.   Nice police officer gave me a ride back to the car . . . Was driving the hardtop.

That was a you live and learn moment.
I learned headed east bound I can't make the distance between those 2 particular plazas. 
I also learned don't joke with your brother on his turn to fill said Challenger.
When you tell him "go ahead and pump the cheap stuff" he will take you seriously.

I liked my last trip to Carlsile much better, my only bonehead move was leaving the gas cap for the 'Cuda on a gas pump at one of those plazas.

No don't use my name!    I don't trust my gas gauge so on longer trips I always carry fuel.
I did run mine out to on the way home from Carlisle. Took me a few seconds to figure out what the heck was going on. I was lucky enough to be able to coast down a big hill into a gas station.

2755 miles. / 12mpg = 230gals
4 days (estimating 800 miles per day) = $300 for hotels
Food $200

Then double it all to get back. I am not thinking this is economical I believe it is an adventure. $2000 for gas, $600 for hotels and $400 for food. $3000 trip!!!

I have driven to Carlisle the last four years by myself from around Calgary.  The first day I get well into MN, the second near to the east side of Ohio and the third day into Carlisle in the mid afternoon.  And I take no turnpikes.  Am planning to do the same again this year.

I actually think it's worth it to fly into  and take one of Alan's cars to Carlisle.
