Removing chrome wiper thingy
« on: December 27, 2013 - 09:19:15 AM »
How do I remove the large chrome moulding that sits under the wiper blades and below the front window?   It looks like just a matter of removing a few screws and maybe the wiper arms, but mine isn't giving way after removing them.  I need to polish it as it looks like crap right now, and I dont want to bugger it up removing it the wrong way

There really is no secret that I know of to remove this. After you get the screws removed it should just come off. I would guess it has some windshield sealant and other gunk keeping it on. I would just use as much finesse as possible and above all, take your time. Some sort of a wide scraper should do it, plastic if possible. Gently run it down (flat) between the trim and the body to separate the trim from the adhesive . Hope this helps, maybe someone else will chime in with better advice. And of course it is mated with the two corner trim stainless pieces as well, just saying.

It's most likely just stuck to the windshield adhesive...and you're right, it will bend and kink easy if you're not careful :2cents:
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

If its held down with anything other than the screws there's a chance that it hadn't fit flush with the windshield and an adhesive or silicone was used to hold it down. If it was me, I would first attempt to polish it while its on the car. It might be a lot easier than trying to get it to fit properly later on.

I say this because mine was sticking up enough that the wipers would not clear it, so I had to put some silicone under mine to get it into place.

Try to get it warm with a blow drier.  That will soften the adhesive if there is any.

Thanks Folks  I figured it might be a case of adhesive.  No way I can really polish it while its still on the car.   I just polished every single piece of trim on the car, and the windshield thingy really looks crappy.  Need to give it a good polish as well
