413 opinions needed
« on: December 28, 2013 - 09:19:50 PM »
So, I have a 383 that has a spun bearing.  http://www.cuda-challenger.com/cc/index.php?topic=93872.msg923583#msg923583

All details I have are there.

I have a buddy that has  a 413 that he built with 440 pistons.
Mostly stock otherwise.
He says no super special parts.

The motor was built for irrigation.  Got 20 hours of break in and was removed.
Has sat in his garage for a year now.

What I am wondering, Can I take the parts in the thread pasted above and install them on the 413 short block?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the 413 is the smallest RB engine.  The 383 is a B engine that shares parts with the 361 and 400.  You'd be able to use the same parts off the 413 as you'd be able to use off a 440 for example.

Correct , the 383 is a B engine low block , the 413 is the smallest RB engine  so it has the igh deck block so the intake is wider & the heads sit higher so the intkae is wider & the heads sit higher on the 413 , also the dist is approx 1/2 longer to reach the oil pump drive

First off whats your budget?

Food for thought, stroke the 383 and keep the car original - best of both worlds!

Around  1959-60, there was a 383 RB engine made by Chrysler. So this one would be the smallest RB engine, not the 413.

Thanks Chryco and Jesus.  That is exactly what I needed to know.

Hp, budget is on the low right now.
The 413 is a motor my buddy has that I can get for basically nothing.
The 383 that is in the car is not original to the car by any means. so, no need for originality.
I would like to stroke the 383 proper, but that is way out of my budget for this car right now.

So, next question about this motor.  How much taller is the rb motor from the b motor from motor mounts to top of carb?
Or would top of heads be better due to different intake/carb possibilities?

Rbs are about 3/4" taller than the B's. The problem you might have with the 413 is that if it was built as a pump motor for irrigation the crank is probably set to rotate counter clockwise. So you would have to change the crank.

Are they wider?

There are already fitment issues in an a body.

I am thinking I should not be trying to fit an even wider or taller block into that little car.
