Torque converter / flywheel question ?
« on: December 29, 2013 - 08:09:57 PM »
I'm currently looking to buy a new flywheel as the one I have got some really bad teeth on it now, and it keeps making the screetching noise...
I replaced the starter with a new one, but still it sometimes won't take, so I guess the flywheel has to go aswell.

I've found several new McLeod flywheels on Ebay that are supposed to fit the 440 engine, but I'm uncertain what to look for.

I have a 1970 440 engine with a 727 trans. I don't know what flywheel I have on now, but I found they come in either 143T or 130T...
What is the difference between 130t and 143t? Is there a diameter difference?

Well...Hate to be the barer of bad news, but your 440 / 727 combo doesn't have a flywheel.
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

The ring gear that the starter engages is part of the torque convertor and can not be replaced separately as far as I know.

Ok, thanks. So what you are saying is I need a new torque converter..

That's even worse.. They come in 10" 11" and 12", and alot of rpm numbers or whatever

I haven't got the faintest idea what I need.
