70 Hemi Challenger Convertible Clone
« on: December 30, 2013 - 06:16:56 PM »
Someone has offered to trade me a 70 Hemi Challenger Convertible CLONE  for my 70 Challenger 440 R/T AC Convertible PROJECT and CASH.  His Hemi is completely restored from a very original 318 car and very well done.  He says:
"Always a California car with the original blue plates.  It was restored over a two year period in 2010/2011. Still maintains the original colors fe5 with white interior and white power top. Originally a 318, 4 speed. Not an rt. It now has a built 426 hemi with dual period carter carbs. 18 spline Hemi 4 speed and dana 60 rear end. power brakes with front discs. Power steering. Power top. Shaker hood. 15” wheels  235’s on the front. 245’s on the back. Still has the original jack and space saver in the trunk. Both the front and rear have sway bars and stock shocks.

Interior is legendary. White. Black carpet. Rim blow steering wheel. Original am radio. Dash and convertible frame was all powder coated. All assemblies were made with stainless screws wherever possible. Rally dash was rebuilt by redline.  Seatbelts are original with the date tags still visible. The doors open and close well. And everything lines up. I have the original fender tag and the build sheet"
"

What value would you place on a nice clone like this?  I need to know how to value it in order to decide how much cash difference would be reasonable.  I know what "real deal" Hemi Challenger is worth, but need some help on pricing a clone.  Thanks for your input! RB

I agree with Alan. You can get a pretty nice 318 challenger vert for around $35k. Add a hemi and accessories for $15-20k. That takes you to $50-55k.Add a 4 speed, shaker, and a dana and its got to be worth close to $60k.Depending on what the hemi is etc...

:iagree: He obviously agrees.  I sent him this thread, and he says keep my car and send him a check for $60K.  That is a far cry from trading my car and $55K cash?!!?!?
Thanks for your input!  Now if someone would just buy my car! :)

Why would you trade for a clone when you have a car they only made 168 examples of with your engine :clueless:

I'd rather have the girl next door with all the cosmetic surgery already done (and paid for by someone else) who is now a 10, instead of Angelia Joli in a coma with all those medical bills around the corner.

To each his own, but the "ride" is still the same, might as well enjoy it.

That was his first offer. :22yikes: After I sent him this thread, he agreed and said he would take $60K for his car, and I could keep mine.  Only problem is I would have to sell mine to get most of the $60K :sadwavey:

At my age (70), I too would be satisfied with "the girl next door with all the cosmetic surgery already done (and paid for by someone else) who is now a 10"!
I just can't afford "Angelia Joli in a coma with all those medical bills around the corner" although she would be beautiful and healthy after the surgery and resurrection?!!?

Okay, so this is starting to make a little more sense. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You feel your project car is worth $48K (with over $50K invested)

He feels his turn key Hemi clone is worth $60K "Buy it now" ....Drive it now....

He contacted you about making a trade for your car plus you give him some cash.

I'm assuming he wants you to add more then the difference of $12K cash ? :dunno:

I think the question(s) you have to ask yourself are:

#1 Is his car currently worth the $60K asking price ?  (My opinion...YES)
#2 What would the current value of a "U" code auto be fully restored ? (My opinion....$75K-$80K tops)
#3 On top of your $50K currently invested, how much extra would it cost to restore your car to a level where you could sell it for top dollar ? (My opinion....another $60K minimum)
#4 How much are you willing to spend to get a turn key driving car ?

If you spend the money to restore your car, (I'd be glad to do it for you :D) You will have over $110K invested in a car worth $80K....$30K loss, but a real nice fully restored new rare original car. :2cents:

If you give him say, $25K difference, you'll have $75K invested in a $60K car, only a $15K loss, but it would be a cool HEMI 4spd Shaker car :clapping:

In hindsight, I think you never should have taking your car apart if you couldn't follow through. If your car was a turn key driver, you might get a better dollar, but as a rusted out, blown apart project, I think you'll have a hard time "A" finding a buyer and "B" getting anything over $20K. :crying: I know it sounds insulting, but it's true. :2cents:
