Alternator bracket mounting question
« on: January 01, 2014 - 08:34:46 PM »
I finally located the proper lower alternator bracket for a 340 with A/C. It has a leg on the back bottom of the bracket that goes down to the top bolt that bolts the motor mount to the block. Is this bolt supposed to have a stud coming off the top of it facing the front of the car to mount this bracket to? It does not appear to reach the block and looks to be the right amount of space for this type of bolt.  :pullinghair:

Thanks!

Jeff

Is this the bracket ?

No special bolts that I've seen...

Yes, that is the bracket I have now. When I snug the bolt that goes through the water pump, the other part of the bracket that bolts to the block where the motor mount is is about 1/2" from touching the block. That is why I wondered if there was a piggyback bolt used to attach this bracket there.

I will take a better look at it tomorrow.

Thanks!

Jeff

Okay, went out and tried to get the alternator mounted again and I believe this bracket is actually supposed to bolt to the end of the head. Can anyone confirm this?

The problem is, the motor I am working on has Edelbrock aluminum heads on it and there is a bolt hole in the end of the head in the correct place. The problem is though the arm of the bracket is about 3/4" too long and there is no room to bolt it there as the alternator just barely clears the end of the head.

Has anyone ever used Edelbrock heads and A/C on the same motor? How did you mount the alternator?

Luckily I have a bracket for the alternator for a car without A/C and was able to put it on for now.

Thanks!
