Factory original 1970 T/A Challenger Low Mileage Survivor

Hi Guys, :wave:

I am listing this for a very good friend of mine. It is a 60,657.8 mile factory original Plum Crazy 1970 T/A Challenger. :biggrin:
The car is numbers matching, but still waiting on confirmation on the Torqueflite for numbers matching, car has original T/A engine matched to the VIN and car. The car does come with history and was last registered in Florida. :bigshades:
The only rust that can be found in the car is on the lower rear quarter panels on the outsides, the trunk extensions have no visible rust and the car has not been in any collisions, and still wears all of its factory applied Plum Crazy Purple.  :clapping:
I can supply more pictures and information for people who are series, this is an investment grade vehicle that could be as easy as jumping in and driving, everything on the car works flawlessly and the price is listed at a little lower than what a car of this calibre is really worth especially considering it is a desirable High Impact colour :drool:
The price of shipping a car back to America from Australia really is not that hard of a thing to do. That is correct, this car is located in Australia and i can organize shipping and deliver the car at this end to a shipping company dock to help out any series over seas buyers. :bananasmi

The price of the car is firm at $56,000 Australian Dollars.

If you take advantage of the low Australian dollar compared to the higher American dollar, the price of this car with the conversion at .90c in the dollar equals to $50,400 as of todays floated conversion rate 10:30 PM EST Australia 01/04/2014.

I actually have not seen the car yet, he has had this thing locked away in his shed for a long time now, Australian law is changing with our super funds, he bought this in conjuction with that and the law is in the process of changing out 2016 and he wants to put the money back so he does not get hassled for having a car as part of his super fund, it is ridiculous that they are changing it this way. :screwy:

I personally think that a car is a better investment than having money sitting in the bank, but he has to comply by 2016, so when it sells it sells. I would not think it would last long in fact, he just wants to do right by his insurance and Wife at the same time. :swaying:

With the repaint and the condition of original things like the seat belt ends (rusty) I would strongly encourage anyone that interested to get more photos.   It might be a good deal, but it also might be hiding a lot too. 

Why take a photo of a trunk and leave the mat in?  It's not as if he doesn't know what a the car is worth or that anyone serious will want to see the normal rust areas.  A few spots I would suggest taking photos of...

T/A specific areas like the exhaust hangers
The inside of the quarter panels to make sure they have the factory under coating and are original
The trunk pan from both top and bottom
Under the car both front and back
Under the carpet front and back
VIN stampings on the Rad, Cowl, Block, and trans.

I know you're trying to help him, but posting some photos of the above areas will help.  And yes, I am interested.  A friend showed me this car a few weeks ago when he was considering it.  I don't think it's a great deal at $50K US plus shipping and taxes unless it's original pristine underneath and no rust at all.

I was thinking the same thing...look at the pitting on the shifter, window cranks, interior door handles....It may be a survivor but that type of pitting spells a lot of dampness at one time to me... :dunno:

I talked to the guy and he said his Wife took the pictures, hence why their is no detailed shots like trunk mat removed and so forth. I have already got him on to it to send me more pictures of key areas.
This car was a Florida car and it is no where near salt air or water at all now, it does have some of those areas that do need a bit of love, but nothing is hidden and i will post more pictures as i get them. :2thumbs:

This is exactly correct, the laws are a changing, so he has to change car for money, as per agreement with his insurance, good thing is he has a lot of time ahead to do it by.

OK guys, i have an update with some pictures. The gear box has been replaced at some time, but everything else is numbers matching everywhere. He has not had a chance to remove the trunk mat yet as he is a little scared he is going to rip it as it is original to the car and he said it is fragile, but he will try and remove it sometime this new week and get pictures to me so i can post up the trunk area both inside and underneath for everyones viewing. Remember this is an original survivor car and not a restored car, and it has the usuall corrosion coverage on old areas, but no rust problems other than what i have already explained in the first discription, in the lower rear quarters only, but not in the trunk extensions.
I will be making a trip down to his pplace for business reasons in 2 weekends time and may get a chance to go and see the car and make my own evaluation of the car as my word will be of exactly what i see and find, i will go over the car entirely and leave feedback here once i have done so to help put peoples minds at eaze if anyone is interested. :wave:
If i do not make it when i say, i know i will be in his area again for a major show, and will deffinetely stop in his place for a visit in mid March :2thumbs:
He took pictures of key areas as good as he possibly could, no access to a hoist at the moment, so the pictures are taken from floor level via the help of a jack. :thumbsup:

The picture of the transmission is NOT the VIN number, he knows that right ? The VIN number is found on the passenger side of the case about half way up towards the front. :2cents:

More signs of the car having paint work done is evident on the exhaust hanger.

Thank you for the photos.  Not the clearest photos, but give some good information.  Pretty neat car.  If it was all original (paint) I would be making a purchase.   I would love to make a trip over the pond!  Dang.



edit:  When does a car lose the title "original"?  Does a repaint make it not original?

I think in my opinion....If a car has had a total re-paint it's no longer "original"....

In the case of this car, "How much paint touch-up" has to be determined first...I think the "Survivor" guys allow a certain percentage of repaint before it loses it's "Survivor Status"....I'm not sure how much percentage that is :clueless: nor our we certain how much this car has had. :2cents:

This is a hard car to value.  If it was original and not repainted it would be worth more than what they are asking (IMO), but it's been repainted.  And it's not a project car either so not a good car to restore.  Hard to spend that much money on a car that's been a little restored and still needs a restoration, but has so much original stuff.  What do you do with a car like this?  Buy it and drive it?  Buy it and restore it?  or what?  Don't think it's going to pass as a survivor at any show because of the repaint so that survivor show class is not an option.

So the rockers & hangers show it was repainted, the tape line around the VIN decal on the door post shows it was repainted and the hard tape line on the cowl shows it was repainted.  If the cars paint is even from front to back and top to bottom it appears the car was painted completely at some point.

The date code on the Trans lines up with the build date on the tag so most likely it's right, but would be nice to know for sure.


If I was going to make an offer, what would be a fair price?  I think my wife wants to go to Australia.   :woohoo:
