    If you get, clean it up, detail it a little and drive it. It could be a diamond in the rough. Could be a great car for someone if trunk is ok, but I would suspect repairs under the repaint. Just the nature of how they were used and driven back in the day. Good luck!

    Tough one Cody, I'd say you would have to figure out the costs of shipping and duties(if any) and what you would do to the car.

    I can see buying it and fixing it while driving it but not to buy it and tear it down as it's too cost prohibitive.

    Good looking car though!

    I agree with Cody, it's a very hard car to put a value on....
    If you could be happy with just a basic clean-up and drive as is, you might be all right, but you're paying TOP BUCK for a driver in my opinion. :2cents: It's not a Survivor.

    What we have (or at least think we have) is an original paneled, numbers matching, low optioned, automatic, FC7 T/A in decent driver condition with an asking price of $50K and possible extra shipping costs etc...totalling $5K-$10K ?

    I would think there are a few cars that fit that description around and available in the States/Canada for less money.

    Personally, I couldn't live with it in it's current condition and would want to do a full ground up restoration. Unfortunately, the cost of resto would be almost as much money as any project car available at half the price. :2cents: When you're talking about stripping the body 100% for a repaint, rebuilding the drivetrain, installing new soft trim etc... it all cost the same. Only difference is that this car doesn't need metal work. Being an FLA car, I'm not even convinced of that without closer inspection.

    I say take your wife to Australia for a well deserved vacation, but spend your car money Stateside. :cheers: (or here in Canada) ::)

    Hey guys, thanks for chimming in and giving your view, points and opinioins on the car, looks like i have to do some investigative searching in to the history and nature of this beast. I or we are still waiting to see what the inside of the quarter panels look like and under the trunk mat also to see if their is any nasty surprises anywhere at all, the guy who owns it is a very straight shooter and a hell of a nice guy and i trust in his judgement a fair bit actually, so i will ask him if he was told of what may have been painted and when at what time, he may not have been told when he bought it either, i am hoping he knows some history about the car, and those ectra pictures we are waiting for will also help in a decision to what it is.
    Good points regarding Survivor, i forget what the percentage is for the paint side of things. It is looking like only a slight panel fix of cutting the rusted sections of the rear quarter would be the only fix needed in regard to original sheet metal.
    The term i typed for Factory original means unmolested and original coloured, i will have to see about the paint as mentioned earlier.
    It is a gorgeous car for sure, i did not even know he had this car as he is not allowed to even drive it for insurance reasons as i stated earlier with his Super Annuation fund.
    If someone plans a trip out and wants to look at the car, i can organize transport to pick them up at the airport and have them driven out to see the car, easy as that. :2thumbs:

    I live in a different State than where the car is, and i do not do beer, but you are more than welcome to look through the fridge, i think my buddy has beer, so you can drink his and look at the car at the same time :2thumbs:

    I'm going to look at this car on Monday USA time, so it has been great to find this old thread. thanks for the comments.

    I have received a few more photos. car likely needs a full repaint, regardless of the originality of the paint.
    - rear quarters
    - dent at top of rear wheel arch
    - dents and paint chipped off in a few places on the roof (full roof paint needed)
    - what's left if those areas all need paint??? it'd be a nightmare to blend sections...

    It would be great to leave the original stripes on (tho a painter would rather not need to tape em off, I'm sure…)

    I mention restoration "at SOME stage" because I am not that worried if I have a "worn-in" car to drive for some years.

    As long as I can arrest, or quarantine some of the rust issues then book her in for a paint job down the track.

    I'll take plenty more detailed pics.

    What's the opinion on the exhaust hangers and other areas that appear quite rusty?
    If they're badly rusted, it'd be ideal to clean up and repaint any originally hardware over time.

    The more research I do on a T/A, the more I want one, but I have to be realistic and not get caught up in it and overlook the potential headaches.

    the other one you are looking at in AZ, u will be in it for @ $100K shipped and VAT to AUS. if you picked up this one @$55K and dropped $30K into the resto (keeping in mind, that the resto is now in your hands and you can make sure it's done right. the AZ car is still questionable until you can verify what was done and not done) you'd be under $100K and know it was done how you want it. + no hassles with overseas shipping. just another thought and consideration
