What is the difference in a T/A engine and a regular 70 340?  I know the 6 pack LOL!!!...  but what else like cam and rods ect?  Can you not just build a regular 340 up to T/A standards?

cuda guy,you can build up a 340,but the 340's used on the T/A's and AAR's are stamped TA blocks. if your doing a complete resto its very important...for some people.

I can see the point in haveing the "T/A" stampted on the block, some people would just feel incomplete if they werent card carrying members you know?  Thats just like those few who just have to have a orig Cuda to restore instead of restoring a cheaper Barracuda the way you would have ordered it from the factory.  I can see points form each side, but being the poor man that I am I going the cheap route when I  get established and ready for my new Mopar project.

totally agree cuda guy, Its cool to have a legit cuda, but with a stock barracuda project you can basically do what you want with it,toss the 318 replace it with 440 or a hemi and its cool, but if you got a #'s cuda with a 340 or 383 in it,its a hard call for me to yank those motors, I like 340's and 383 and both put out. with the 318 car less worry about correctness with the car. my 70  has a 71 dash and i dont care, it will soon sport a 440-6 with a 727 and a dana60. big deal right its only a 318 car to begin with?Im tempted in the long run to put billboards on it, what do you think ,billboards on a 70?cool or not cool?

The way I look at it is every man is intitled to his own opinion...  Bilboards on a 70 would look good to me as long and the color combo is good.  But I perfer the Hockey Stripe.

Did you ever hear the story about how the billboard came about?  Well if you havent here it goes...  The guy who was assigned to desgin the graphic for the quater panel was very disappionted in his assignment to that job he thought he was better then that.  So thinking he was going the steam his boss he decided to desgin a graphic that covered the whole quater panel and part of the door.  So thinking that his boss was going to hate it, it turned out that he loved it and it went into production!!!  LOL!!!   I read that recently in a Mopar Mag I dont know which one sorry!

Dark Horse if you want a billboard on your car put it on there, its yours!!!  I wish you luck with your graphic endevor!!!  I cant wait till I have to make these decesions once again!!!

no i know what you guys are saying!

here is the way i looked at it.  i have a 71 340 bare block that came with the car.  If i go out and from what i am finding buy the correct parts for the aar which the main expense i know will be the 6-pac setup with the carbs.  If i do that and rebuild the 71 block to a aar setup i really don't think i will be that far off than if i find a complete t/a engine not a 4500.00 t/a engine but a complete t/a engine.  Now do you see my point cuda guy.  believe me its not like this is a" money is no object" project.   Dark horse .....i haqve a couple of other leads to check out but  i will keep it in mind ......but i think that may be a little out of my budget

HAve you tried the AAR registry? they have a classified section there and there is always engines there,  but all my searching ( I want a AAR some day!) have the T/A at or around 4K for a complete package...keep us posted with your project AAR are awesome and would be cool to see a resto process on one.. ;)

The heads are unique as well , the pushrod hole was relocated & the used special rockers, the same ones the W2 heads use

yeah chryco,

i thought after i posted that last message i thought to my self the head are not going to be cheap either.  From what i have found that most of the AAR's had a "X" stamped head, however, our tor red aar had "U" stamped correct heads i have also saw other ones that way.

I also read that those engines were de-stroked so they could make the CID 302.  Also I heard that the W2 Head was the best SB head out there???

AAR

The way I look at it is if you want a T/A block go for it...  If your going to do a Exact Resto than you car will not be complete with out it!!!  And until recently I didnt know much about the T/A engine.  I totaly understand about putting money into a 340 that is what you want and still paying around the same price!!!
